When slipping isn't an option.

Whether you're pummeling down nasty, rock-infested trails or pedaling along forested singletrack with slimy roots threatening to throw you off balance, the Adidas Terrex Trail Cross SL Mountain Bike Shoe keeps you firmly glued to your pedals with sure-footed grip and plentiful support underfoot. This pair of trail riding shoes is designed for use with flat pedals, ensuring you remain securely connected to your bike while riding over technical trail sections. And because you'll often scope out new lines before plunging in, you'll enjoy the shoe's ability to flex and conform to the terrain underneath you while walking down the trail.

You'll find the same Stealth rubber compound that's made Five Ten Shoes (Adidas actually acquired Five Ten a few years back) a favorite among aggressive trail riders for its tacky grip, even in the slick and muddy conditions encountered on the trail. Not only does the sole employ Stealth rubber, but it uses a triangular traction pattern to evacuate moisture and provide flexibility where you need it and grip exactly where you want it.

Looking to the uppers, you'll find the breathable mesh does an admirable job of keeping your feet cool and dry, even when temperatures skyrocket on summer days. This breathable upper is reinforced with a protective rubber toe cap, seeing you'll probably smash your feet on a number of trail features, such as rocks and roots. Other key features include an energy-absorbing EVA midsole that smooths out big drops and uneven terrain, as well as a Pro-Moderator medial support system for a bit more stability while pedaling.

Fit true to size and great grip

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Big upgrade from sneakers. I don’t have experience with any other MTB shoes.

Fit true to size and great grip

Great Shoe

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've never had a pair of MTB shoes so I don't have much to compare to other than a pair of lightweight nike's. I like these much more, nice and flat, wide with lots of room for a bigger mans foot. Things that I have noted is that they are heavy, which I do feel like is an advantage. Much more confidence compared to a regular tennis shoe. They got a little bit hot today in the 90 degree weather but nothing I couldn't live with. Great for bike n hiking as well, being a big man I have to walk a few climbs and they are very nice for that.
I have to commend Competivecyclist's help center helping me pick these shoes out.

Great alternative to 5.10

Had my first ride yesterday (downhill) and these shoes are awesome. Stiffer than my 5.10s, they have excellent grip, sticking to my Brendog DMR Vault pedals without any slips. They require a bit of breaking in but they seem well constructed and look great. Definitely recommend.

    Great Desert Shoes

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I love the stealth rubber for scrambling and cruising around the red rock.

    Drei Streifen

Adidas always fits me. These shoes are no exception. These shoes work as advertised. Stiff rubber toe cap saved me once thus far. Soles are nicely stiff for energy transfer. These shoes were cheaper than other brands and feature the same grippy rubber sole technology so no sense in wasting money. I like the minimalist approach with the lace retention strap. Other shoes have the protective flap, but I run hot and the lack of an extra layer is fine with me. I've never had any issues with the laces coming out.

Hey Eric, How have these held up? Is there enough support to prevent foot fatigue and cramping on big days and long descents? I have not been happy with my Afton shoes and looking to replace them (the sole is pretty shredded after a couple of months and they're not very supportive). Thanks

    Unanswered Question

Are these sized like five ten, because I wear 10.5 in adidas and 11.5 in five ten

    Comfy FiveTen Alternative

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Really comfortable shoe that runs a bit more narrow than the Five Ten Freerider.
They use the same stealth rubber as Five Tens, as Adidas actually owns that company. After seeing every single rider on the trail running Five Tens, I thought it would be nice to switch it up, and I was not disappointed. They stick well to flats and on hike a bike sections, I think they are actually better than the Free Riders.

Did you order the same size as with the five ten shoes
