Cheap plastic and fit issues

This component matches well with my Absolute Black oval 30T. However, the build quality is fairly flimsy - mostly plastic, which is really underwhelming. Also, the chain guide portion will NOT work with some boost spaced bikes. I ended up grinding the frame - side piece of the plastic jaw down to make it fit my 2020 Stumpjumper 29. AB supplies a lot of spacers for getting away from the frame, but they could make their product work better by making that inside jaw a thinner part.

I bought this for my SC Bronson and it fits perfect. I have piece of mind that my chainring is protected from rocks and roots. It was quick and easy to install.

I had to return a MRP AMG v2 Carbon bash guide when I changed to the Absolute Black Oval on my new bike. While the Absolute Black doesn't look bad, I liked the look of the MRP better. As a trade off it costs less, is lighter and allows me to keep the Oval which I prefer. Competitive Cyclist has been good to work with.

I've bashed my chainring and guards enough to know it's worth every penny to keep one of these on my bike. This is a super easy install will all the parts to space it correctly depending on the ring you have, etc. Loving the AbsoluteBlack components.

Have done a few rides with it so far and has held up. Have not taken any direct hits yet so I guess I will have to wait and see how it does for big impacts.

Dropped chain, then dropped the guide

I dropped the chain twice after installing this and the second time the plastic chain guide came off never to be seen again. Contacted Absolute Black to see about a warranty and the best they could do is offer me 10% off of a replacement part. This is my first chain guide so I'm not sure if this is typical but I really hope there are better products out there. The basher guard has worked fine though.

I guess I Hit Too Big

I've ridden this a couple dozen times on blue/black trails. My chain has dropped 3 times now. Each time I dropped the chain, I check and the guides don't look like they're out of place and they are as low as they can go. The bash guard is destroyed, guess it did it's job but thought it would last longer.

This bash guard does everything I need it to. Has saved my chainring a number of times. I took the guide off. Many people say they can't get it correct for the spacing of boost but I didn't have a problem getting it right. Just have to use the correct spacers. I just don't use it because I don't feel it's necessary on my Bronson.

Nice piece and fit my Boost drivetrain

I just installed this bashguard and havent had the opportunity to ride with it yet so I cant comment on functionality. First impression was that the box was empty this guard was so light. Got it out of the box and quality and finish were awesome. Great, easy instructions provided. Hardware is high quality. I installed this on a boost drive train without any problems. Not sure if Absolute Black revised there design but it had more than enough shims to work on my 6 Fattie. Installed in about 5 minutes. Can be installed without removing crank, you actually need it on to line up the chain guide properly. Looks great and im confident that i wont hurt my new Absolute oval chainring riding rock gardens. UPDATE: Have a few hundred miles on this part now and it has paid for itself ten times over. Im more confident getting over rocks and logs knowing that my chainring is protected.

Great Bash Guard, But No Guide For Boost

This guard is nice and light. the installation was a cinch, too. The only problem was with the chain guide. It doesn't come far out enough to work with the boost crank on my Troy. You could only use so many spacers. A second, longer bolt and more spacers for the guide mount would have been nice. I hope I never have to utilize the guard, but I'll update on how it holds up when I inevitably bash it on some rock. Another great product from Absolute Black, and the guard is absolutely black except for the silver mounting bolts. UPDATE: The guard just paid for itself. It totally saved my nice new X01 Eagle chainring from certain death when I landed on a sizable rock during a night ride. The guard now has a big scrape that I can show with pride!

I've only had the bashguard on my ride for about a month, but it's already paid for itself at least twice. My local trails tend to be pretty rocky/bouldery, so I felt like I needed the extra protection. If nothing else, it gave me piece of mind. Not only does it protect your investment (i.e. chainring), it looks hella good doing it! The titanium fasteners are great touch, especially the blue one on the guide. Setting up the guide spacing was a bit tricky though: the directions it came with suggested using 2.5mm worth of spacers (which it came with), but my chain was still rubbing--I needed about .5mm more. However, the spacers it came with didn't allow for a 3mm combination. I had to bust out my dremel skills and MacGyver 3mm worth of spacer with what they provided. It wasn't a huge deal, but it added about 15mins to the installation. In all, was it worth it? --ABSOLUTEly! See what I did there? Ok I'll leave
