Guardian Jacket

7mesh Industries knows that some riders are down to get out in almost any conditions, so the Guardian Jacket is here to make it more comfortable. This waterproof, breathable jacket features 3-layer Gore-Tex Active that seals out water while allowing vapor to escape—keeping precipitation from dampening your spirits as you crank out the miles. The 20-denier nylon construction withstands hard rides and abrasive trails so you can focus on riding your best. A helmet-compatible hood has three adjustment points to help you find the perfect fit, while the drop-tail hem and elastic cuffs ensure coverage even in your most aggressive stance. The front closure and torso pockets feature watertight zippers which seal out rain to keep you and your gear dry throughout your ride.

The Real Deal

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I've now had several MTB rides in this jacket in the rain.
Boxes to check: Fit, Feel, Waterproofing, Breathability, Longevity. I give no nod to cost, as that's a personal consideration and I'm more focused on performance.

Fir: I'm 5'9" and the medium fits perfectly with ample room to layer below. The hood fits over the helmet and snugs up easily via 3 easy to use snugs. Check!

Feel: GoreTex Active 3L is amazingly light. The material feels good against the skin, so no problems wearing only short sleeves beneath. The jacket is very light and compresses down into a tiny package, easily packable in a backpack or fannypack. Check!

Waterproofing: After getting caught in a downpour, I remained completely dry on the inside. Check

Breathability: I have a variety of ski & bike jackets made from different GoreTex fabrics (pro, Pac-lite), and this is easily the most breathable of the lot. Despite the lack of vents, I didn't have significant moisture build up inside the jacket on a 2000' climb, with temperatures hovering around 65-70F degrees. In fact, when resting on a ridgeline after a long climb, I actually started to cool down from wind getting through the jacket, so it's not as windproof as Pro or Pac-lite - that's the trade off for breathability. Check!

Longevity: To be determine. But I have faith in GoreTex and in 7Mesh's commitment to repair any tears that may be incurred through normal use.

Summary: The jacket meets expectations on all fronts and I recommend it without hesitation.
