Excellent pants but not for XC riding

  • Gender:Male
  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I tried sizes M and L. These are great pants -- they're not a full knicker but are also not shorts. I bought one pair, size M, and returned them because they were too tight overall. I'm a 33" waist. But the quality is excellent and the inner short is also high quality as well. I then ordered three pairs in size L; black, urban camo and jungle camo. All high quality, nice pockets and zippers. The fact I order three pairs underscores how much I like them.

The problem is, in my opinion, these are not designed for long XC rides. The waist velcro attachments rotate and the knees, which are not quite knickers but are longer than shorts, pull the pants down because they catch on your knee and pull, so I was having to constantly adjust the shorts -- pull them up and rotate the hip attachments around so they'll stay up. So they're a no-go for 4+ hr XC rides but for short rides or commuting they'd be fine. They'd also be fine for DH rides. The knees have a cool feature where you can open a vertical zipper along the side to allow for more space -- perfect for G-Form- type slim knee pads. I was really bummed because overall the shorts are great. I'm still giving them 5 stars because the issue may be more with my scrawny body then the pants. They are made from high quality materials and look like they will last a long time. Again, sad I can't make them work after trying M and L size.
