Undeniable style.

With stretchy fabric, a removable liner, and chafe-free taped seams, the Zoic Ether Mountain Bike probably sounds like the high-end offerings from other bike apparel manufacturers. Where the Ether short really shines, however, is that it has all this plus over-the-top style.

The most important feature of the Ether short is its chamois liner. The chamois, called the Zo-Tech, is Zoic's highest-quality, multi-level, stretch chamois. It's even made with recycled polyester so it gives a little back. The chamois cushions impacts and reduces vibrations in the saddle. The liner is also fully removable, which makes the Ether extremely versatile. You can wear the shorts with the liner, then ditch the liner post-ride. You can even wear the liner with other shorts to transform them from casual shorts to riding shorts.

The Ether's list of features doesn't end with its removable chamois liner, though. The whole body of the Ether is made with a stretch material that won't bind or limit your range of motion, and Zoic taped the seams to create a smooth surface that won't cause chafing. The fabric also pulls moisture away from your skin to keep you dry and comfortable. The Fusion Gusset inseam further increases the short's range of motion and eliminates seat hang-ups, while vents below the waistband in the back and down the legs promote airflow so you can stay cool on hot days of riding. The Ether also comes with plenty of pockets–two front, two thigh, and one back– so you have plenty of room for your essentials. There's even a dedicated media pocket for your phone or MP3 player with a headphone cord control grommet and loop to avoid snags.

As far as fit is concerned, the Ether's cuffs fall right at the knee. The leg holes are loose enough that they don't interfere with knee pads. Zoic also included waist adjustments so you can fine-tune the fit. The flat front waistband is secured with a standard zip-and-snap closure.

ZOIC Ether Mountain Bike Shorts come in sizes Small through 3X-Large. They are available in Tan, Castle, Black, or Nova.

Killer shorts. Lifetime warranty.

Love these shorts. The zipper broke after about six months. Called Zoic, they said its covered by a lifetime warranty. They mailed a new pair immediately. Thats killer customer service.

Great All Around MTB Short

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Great value. Both my brother and I have been punishing the Zoic Ether as our go-to shorts for well over a year for a cumulative 3,000+ miles. As long as you don't dry them they hold up pretty darn well and can definitely take a beating as they are a tough material which also provides some protection. The Ether is a great cut/length that's not too "Enduro" but not too "XC" either. Great pockets from size to location, stuff doesn't fall out or option to zip in a car key or something that you simply can't lost... and a very good, minimalist chamois provides nice mobility. Highly recommend.

best casual riding shorts out there

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Previously I was never a fan of baggies - they were too hot, too bulky, and not functional. The Ether shorts changed my opinion of baggies. These are super thin, the cut keeps the material out of the way when riding, the pockets make sense, and they've proven to be durable. I wear them as regular shorts as much as riding shorts, too.

Did not hold up.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Bought a pair of the Ethers and really like them. They fit well and seem to be of high quality. But they did not hold up. After just two months the black reinforced area around the zipper (see the pic from Tarran Siladi below) separated from the pant leg. If that wasn't bad enough the front of the material on the shorts began to fray slightly on both sides. Very disappointing. Had to return for partial refund.

Good to go.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

These shorts are comfortable, cool, look good, and are well designed. Best of all, when I have them on, I totally forget about them. Perfect.
I am a medium guy, and the large is my size in this short.

Close up of pocket. One of the best designs for a cargo pocket of any shorts I own. Very flat but expands well when needed.

Good... But not great.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

There are pieces of velcro everywhere, zippers to hidden pockets that I never use all over the place... I guess it's useful but I am kind of a less is more person. Would rather have a piece of gear that is well thought out then just has everything thrown together in the hopes that everyone will like at least a couple features. The cargo pockets are pretty well done though, they lay very flat when not in use, but can hold a decent amount of stuff. See picture above for a close up of them.

I am a 32 waist, and these fit great in a medium. I've had issues in the past with Zoic gear feeling too baggy and relaxed, but these shorts are fairly well cut.

The liner also fits well, didn't feel too tight. Breaths well, though honestly it doesn't seem that much different then any of the other liners/padded shorts I own. I usually just grab which ever pair is on top and call it good enough.

The shorts by them selves also work well for hiking and other strenuous activities, though the blue color that I bough is a bit on the garish side.

Awesome shorts!

Lots of great features. Very comfortable. I am 5'7 150lbs and the small fit me. the chamois is a teeny bit too tight, but I think it is supposed to be that way.
