Zipp Aero Titanium Skewers are surprisingly light. In fact, you could install them on your bike and carry three energy gels in your back pocket and still come out nearly equal to a set of Campagnolo skewers.

But this lightness doesn't transcend other considerations, like aerodynamics, strength, and function. Like Zipp's first-generation Titanium Skewers, these have a Ti rod that connects aluminum elements on either side of the dropout. Zipp gives serious attention to both ends. As evidence, take the lowly skewer nut. Here, Zipp machines it so that it strikes a perfect balance between minimalism and user friendliness. It's certainly light, yet it's easy to turn with a bare thumb and forefinger. And a closer look reveals a machined groove at the end of the threads where a tiny O-ring functions to damp vibrations and to keep the nut from loosening as you ride (a good thing unless you want to have a memorial bump in the road named after you).

On the lever end, Zipp started with a clean slate and designed their Aero Titanium Skewers with an aero torpedo shape. The alloy parts utilize the familiar cam ended lever to apply pressure on the frame to keep the wheels in place. The cam end is hemispherical and nestles into its brass lined counterpart on the knurled clamp disc. The brass assures smooth action and the conical interface allows you to close the lever in any position without grinding the knurled disc into the carbon dropout on your new wonderbike. As sleek as these are, you'll want to position them straight back so they look like bullets anyway. Zipp went so far as to laser etch their logo on the outside and four important letters on the inside of the lever -- OPEN. If you can read this, you've still got work to do.

  • Oversized cam and extra-long levers so your knuckles live a much happier life
  • Titanium shaft reduces weight and adds strength

  • Titanium shaft and aluminum end nuts
  • Aerodynamic titanium levers

One piece of bling

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I have an awesome non-carbonated bike. but i love it.
I sprung for some titanium skewers to give it just a bit of ultralight. Grabbed them on sale and they're cool. Zipp makes them aerodynamic so you can point them and go fast.
They're skewers. They are crazy light, but you're not going to podium just becuase you slipped them on. But they look cool.
And now I have one piece of bling on my workhorse.

Crazy light

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

At $35, this was the best bang for the buck upgrade I did to shave some grams off my bike. Less than half the weight of Bontrager Race wheel skewers I was using previously. However, the loss of grams comes with a slight cost. While they secure the wheel just as well as the Bontragers, the smaller handle makes it slower to secure and unsecure the wheel. The springs are a bit tight too so putting the springs back on the Zipp skewer is a bit of a pain every time I swap skewers for my trainer.

Very light

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

Got a set of these skewers during TdF sales to replace the Mavic set. Feel like half the weight of the Mavic.

zipp skewers - wish they were black

The picture of the skewer looks dark, almost black. When they arrived they were silver in color and did not match the hubs or the spokes. Now they work great, they are light and do the job just fine. I just wish they matched all the other black bits on the bike. Had I known I would have gone with the stainless.

Great price on Titanium skewers. Interesting design.

    A work of art.

    • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

You don't need these, but you want them. They work beautifully, and look fantastic.

    Get 'em on sale

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times

These are extremely light and have a very confidence inspiring closure. Super pricey, but on sale these are a must do upgrade! I've used ZIPP Ti skewers in the past, but these are lighter and feel just as sturdy.

    Pretty good

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

The Zipp Titanium Aero Quick Release Skewers are pretty good. They are fairly light and after using them for hundreds (thousands maybe) of miles, they work as expected. Occasionally I get some creaking, but a very small amount of lube on the shaft eliminates the creaks. These are not as good of value as other lightweight skewers, which perform similarly for considerably less. However, on sale from these are a great value.

    Lightweight and neat looking.

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

The Zipp titanium skewers are lightweight, clean-looking, strong, and functional. And during the Tour de France sale, they were a real bargain! I ended up buying 3 sets!

    a no brainer

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times

strong, light weight, dependable, all of this equals peace of mind. and good looking to boot. not my first set and probably not my last.

    Excellent Quality, Beautiful Finish

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times

I bought these skewers to replace the stock Mavic Ksyrium skewers that came with my wheels. Instead of the heavy, clunky plastic Mavic skewers, I now have sleek, lightweight skewers that function perfectly, and complement my vintage Merckx Ti frame.
It's hard to see in the photo, but these skewers have an anodized aluminum finish that's similar to a natural Ti finish, a bright gunmetal grey.
Weight was spot-on at 55g a pair, versus 125g for the stock Mavics.
As for function, they open and close easily with a very solid feel, and the overall design is excellent.
I changed a rear flat today out on the road , no problem at all with the skewer.

great price for a nice upgrade

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times

Skewers are one of those little things you might not think of often but a good pair makes life easier. These are some of the best and a killer price. They are everything you want for your bike - lightweight, aero, easy!

What are the sizes front and rear? will...

What are the sizes front and rear? will they work on a xc mountain bike?

100mm front/130mm rear. I would advise against using these off-road, they probably won't hold up to the abuse. Go with Salsa flip-offs instead.

    Thanks Duncan,

Thinking about putting these on my cross/gravel bike.

Think they'll hold up to that type of abuse?

    Many thanks
