Description

Stiff stem.

The Zipp Service Course SL Alloy Stem represents groundbreaking territory when it comes to the balance between cost, lightness, and performance. Its 3D forged 7075 aluminum construction is what gives it superb strength and stiffness akin to what you'll find on the standard version of the Service Course Stem. They're both built in the same tooling, so the smooth shaping is all the same. Each has its own unique finish, with this one being a lustrous black rather than matte. More importantly, the faceplate went under the CNC bit and got relieved of excess material. Along with having titanium bolts, this is the reason that this Service Course SL Stem is 10 grams lighter than its more modest sibling.

The Zipp Service Course SL Alloy Stem is offered in seven sizes from 70 to 130mm in 10mm increments. Each length is available in two angle options -- the ±6° option is ubiquitous these days, but the ±17° models remind us of a bygone era where stems were dead flat and oh-so Pro. It has a 31.8mm clamp diameter and is a perfect match for Zipp's handlebars. The 1-1/8" steerer clamp has a stack height of 42mm.

  • 3D-forged aluminum construction resists flex for efficient sprints
  • Titanium bolts ensure highest strength and lowest weight possible
  • Four-bolt clamp distributes stress for reduced chance of failure

Best Alloy Stem Available

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Sleek, stiff as hell and lighter than any carbon stem. Simply the best stem around.

Hey CBUP745747,

The Torx bolt size is T25.

Don't worry. The Stem comes with a T25 Torx bit included in the package. You can just fit the Torx bit on a regular Allen wrench (4mm I think)

Tough enough for MTB

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I run this stem on my HT 29er and it has been great for that application. Previously ran one on my road bike and had no issues either. It's nice that it has the T25 bolts, as almost every other bolt in my MTB is the same. The Beyond Black is a good look too, perfect for any "stealth" bike build.

As good as a stem gets.

It can be tough to get excited about a stem, but if there is one to get excited about, its the Zipp Service course SL. Although it is an alloy stem, the weight of the SL is competitive with most of the carbon offerings out there. I like the simple aesthetic, and the torx bolts are a nice touch. Paired with my Zipp SLC2 handlebar, I've got a light, stiff cockpit that has worked well.

The Zipp stems use T25 Torx bolts. This are the most common for bike parts, and come on many bike multi-tools.

Great Stem

Solid, stem - got the whole Zipp cockpit and this goes well. for 120mm weighed 130gm, not the lightest, but a very strong and solid stem. Would recommend the Zipp SL bar to go with this :)

Getting More Aggressive

I installed this stem on an Orbea TT bike to get into a more aggressive position. I get -17 degrees which dropped me quite a bit. I'm stoked going into this more aggressive position for the 2012 season.

Zipp Stem

Strong stem, and lighter than some carbon stems. Sleek looking too. Zipp also makes nice seatposts.
