1. Di2: if you actually try it you'll know why. Doesn't mean you need it, doesn't mean it's better, but it is impressive. 2. How many strange ideas about illness and recovery are there in cycling? The trainer for the proper cool down as a means of preventing illness is right up there with not showering before a race to keep your legs from getting waterlogged.

Actually, Wiggen's use of the trainer was a means of reducing his chances of illness stemming from a rapid post race cool off. This is straight from his team. He even stated in a post race interview that with the way races are setup they are not given a chance of properly cooling down. With his historically fickle immune system and virus sweeping the pelaton his team wasn't taking chances, they even made him wear a balaclava to keep his lungs warm and prevent his exposure to other riders.

I hate to bring up politics after Quirk's repeated gaffes. However, he failed to mention the main reason you should ride SRAM, ie it's a f**kin' American company! We all know the only thing "Made In Italy" from Campagnolo is their packaging and Shimano Di2 is only accessible by the 1%. God bless cycling and god bless America.

I recently ran an experiment. I stored a 7800 dura ace group in a barrel of briney mix of salt water, beer and sausage refuse for 1 year and then acquired 2 identical frames. I put the new Red on 1 and the Dura Ace on the other. Guess which kit worked tons better? off to Fondo

It's a blog written by a person who owns a company (which was sold to another or whatever). As such, you should expect it to be written as such. Duh. Check the URL. It's great and entertaining writing, but were you upset when those videos made by the Cervelo Test Team zoomed in on the bike's logos from time to time? If so, you have other issues. As for worrying so much about who spends how much on what, and if they're entitled to it or not, of if they are "worthy" of it...spare me. Go count your own money, not other people's, and worry about how you spend yours. As for Mr Quirk has a nice bike, I hope he does! He works for a freakin bike retailer, and works hard. I'm sure he has lots of perks, and has earned them.

Dura Ace Di2 is a suckers bet right now due to its orphan status. The newer Dura Ace Di2 is coming and it uses the Ultegra Di2 cabling standards ect, and not the current ones. So buy ultegra Di2 (which is cheaper and in several ways better) or wait. For that sort of cash, you should not be sold an orphan group. Now if its 33-50% off retail, then its worth thinking about. But for full retail you're getting punked.

Rolando for post of the week. "Try to stay on topic next time"? Are you Quirk's english teacher? Its his blog, he can stray from his topic if he wants. "Who has $2300-3900 to spend on components?" Lots of people obviously, what is it to you? "Elitism"? Because he rides a nice bike? If I ran a bike business I would be riding the best products out there. So what? And, congrats on being able to push a big gear, you win the imaginary race in your head.

Rolando, I am laughing right now. I passed Quirk the other day on, yes, his ZERO 7 but it wasn't built as I would expect. He had those cheap FSA bars and Stem on them (the oh so pro, Al ones) but hardly RZR's, actually I dont even think they were deep dish carbon. It wasnt the weather either, I passed plenty of Dentists out flaunting their 81mm depth carbon being rotated by their 79, out of shape watts.

Try to stay on topic next time...And who has $2300-3900 to spend solely on components? You're the guy that shows up to a group ride on a ZERO 7, running RZR loops and Di2. I generally enjoy reading this banter you mask as "blogging," but I'm slowly becoming annoyed with your elitism. We're probably both in the same tax bracket, but to paraphrase Roosevelt; I choose to pedal softly and push a big gear!

@Jesse in Ottawa....cycling may be verboten in some parts of Canada, but not in Quebec buddy. 1-dial up your cable provider and subscrive to RDS2, they are covering all the spring classics, just did Tirreno, and are taking care of the TDF, Giro, Vuelta Worlds and Lombardy. Oh yeah, you need to understand french. Shouldn't be a problem for someone from Ottawa. 2- I don`'t know about these "other" canadians, but i`ve been out riding 3/week since November on a cross bike through blizzards, freezing cold (just last week out in -18 celcius). Get an Assos Fugu jacket and never look at your living room walls ever again. Oh yeah, snowshow racing and x-c skiing ROCK.

Blast! Why is cycling verboten in Canada? We don't get your Paris-Niece coverage and I can't even watch the clip you've posted from Tirreno Adriatico. Please competitive cyclist, please bring bike racing to Canada. Even though we are one tenth the market in population, and probably less in sales, do it for a love of the sport and all us cycle starved Canadians. Most of us won't even be out on the road for another month!
