Dan, please regale us with some more stories about your racing past and how people at bus stops in Waterloo, Ontario somehow mistake you for a professional cyclist. Good grief, get a life.

Andrew in Kitchener: Yeah, I’m a dork…but at least I look good being a dork.
By the way, I have some rather old racing licenses back at my parent’s house that have the number 1 next to the word cat. When you learn how to play nice, maybe I’ll let you look at them. Since I was out riding and you weren’t, I doubt you’ll ever see a number smaller than 4 on your license (if you even have a license).

Yeah, I admit to getting really sick of the contrived nature of this PRO concept…people just trying waaaaay too hard… But yesterday I was reminded of why there needs to be “cyclists” and then “other cyclists”. It was about 5PM, I was returning from 3 hours in -3C/salt-melt/dusty sand. I rode past a packed bus stop, full of people freezing, impatiently waiting for a late bus. I rode by slowly after a red light on the uphill. EVERYBODY took a long slow look as I rode by. The bike and I were covered in road crap. It was lousy weather, at a time of day when normal people are still sitting in their cubicles. But the bike looked PRO--nothing under the saddle, NO FENDERS; the kit was mostly Castelli--a bright Motirolo windstopper jacket, the rest mostly black. Because I was dressed appropriate for a serious workout in cold, I pedaled smoothly and round—I was making it look easy. NOBODY mistook me for a commuter, or “newbie”, or a “summer-only’ lightweight. Isn’t this the essence of PRO???

It's a huge shame that universal sports is no longer a free, over the air broadcast channell. You now have to pay for it thru cable/satellite. I now will no longer watch my favorite sports on television.

About that comment on Italian hospitals - didn't Marco Pinotti get busted up pretty badly in the same crash? Somehow he survived without being flown to Germany. Who made the call to do this? A doc? Or someone with little to no medical knowledge, who couldn't speak the language and freaked out? I'm lucky so far and have not needed any hospitalization in Italy, but now and then one of our tour clients crashes or has a medical emergency. Without exception they've said the care was excellent and efficient and the price they ended up paying (if any) was amazingly reasonable. I'm happy that Lewis recovered but the implication that the Italians can't deal with badly injured folks is BS without more details.

Very cool of you to step up and sponsor events on NBC Sports. At the tail end of the Super Bowl was a killer spot for Go-Pro- which lead me to wonder why no bike companies ever took advantage of the most captive audience they'd ever have. Then I remembered Specialize spent enough money for a Super Bowl add to sue Volagi. Yeah, that was a good investment.

Normally this is the point which I have gentle fun at Brenden's highly cliched use of PRO. You could almost say I am curating the irony. But you know what- this "what's new" kicked so much ass that he gets a complete pass. Yes you sound a bit like a hipster tool when you use PRO, but keep kicking out the ultra-high quality content like: the Badger, the Lewis story and even the SRAM bits all excellent- and you're OUR hipster tool. I keed, nice work. And for the Lemond fanbois, I think you are the last people on earth still drinking his koolaid.

Versus is now NBC Sports Network. Universal Sport is still Universal Sport and formerly was World Championship Sports Network. Are your sponsorship dollars going to the right channel?

I think Brenden keeps this blog going just for the haters, each week you come up with creative ways to combat PRO and contradict everything he says. I am sure each week he is thinking "now what will really give the haters something to bitch about" Keep hating, the content is awesome both from Brenden and the comment section.

"Spy shot of the team kit"? You guys actually hire people to spy on yourselves and take pictures of your own kit? Hmmm - wouldn't it be easier to shoot the pics yourselves? Just wondering.

Hinault betraying Lemond is totally PRO. There is nothing more PRO than being a professional racer dick. PRO is not good or bad, it just is.

I have a lot of respect for Bob Stapleton, both for how he ran High Road and from a random conversation I had with him (not at a bike race.) But, from all reports I've read, he's nowhere near a billionaire. If he were, maybe High Road would still exist.
