Comments - 'Chasing Legends' - A Review

November 03, 2010

I don't think the merger was a great idea. If I am shopping for road components, why do I want to look through a bunch of mountain stuff to find what I am looking for? Please go back to the old format.

Haven't any of the people complaining about the merger noticed the thumbnail images to the side- let's take rear derailleurs for instance- click on SRAM or Shimano (Campy is just a given or maybe some of you don't realize that) and the road are displayed 1st...if you don;t want to see the mtb stuff- don;t scroll down that far-same with the front derailleurs. Click on the brand you are looking for...easy enough. Clothing- if you wear Rapha- go to Rapha etc etc.

Merge. Ack. Sucks. Ack. And not like the "it sucks because its a change from what I'm used to." But rather, "it sucks because it sucks." Just sayin'. Chasing Legends does not suck. But it would if they jumped back and forth between the TDF and say, a mountain bike race.

Throwing in my vote (of course, customer concerns never seem to matter to you guys) about the merge: thumbs DOWN.

Please separate the sites. It was elegant before; now more confusing and annoying.

Hate The Merge. Not Interested in MTN Bike Stuff at All. Sales Page is now a mess.

Why merge the sites? If im looking for mtn parts I'll go the site. But i want road parts and dont want to see all the mtn stuff or have to filter through it.

The merged site is a bit awkward... Maybe add some filtering options in addtion to the sorting options?

Big fan of CC. The merged site may well get your road cyclists to think more about mountain biking (and buying mountain biking stuff if they don't already) - so not a bad business move in that regard if that was the motive . But I am not a mountain biker - may do it (and cross) one day but not soon. So it means a lot more stuff to sift through especially on the specials pages. I think it could also confuse those newer to the sport - the very precise PRO road map you produced is now cluttered (at least Bicycling still keeps their MTB supplement separate. Maybe Ill get used to it - I got used to the regional version of the New York Times eventually - but it was never the same. The only thing I could not find with the un-merged sites was the Rapha Bomber jacket - for some reason it ended up on the MTB side.

Why on earth did you have to merge the "Road" and "Mountain" sections??? Using the same market research team that got Cervelo to pull the plug on online dealers?

Thanks for the great explanation as to why my overwhelming sentiment after watching the feature was, "meh." The Phil and Paul narration is just an awful addition to this movie. EVERYONE knows P&P. They use the same tired phrases and analogies. A consistent narration, such as with the Cervelo "Beyond The Peloton" would have been much better.

Thank for that detailed review. So, the film I'd love to see is the unreleased Tyler Hamilton version Wired to Win. Just putting that out there.

I have the DVD and would recommend it. As written above, even non-cyclist could enjoy it, and it does a great job in explaining a lot of the nuance of the sport (both directly and indirectly). I.E. the Tour is more than just a Yellow Jersey. They see just how long and tough the stages can be rather than just the final stage shown on network television in the US. I had eight people watching it with me after a family dinner. There are now 7 new cycling fans. The one thing I would say is that I agree with the comments about the music. Perhaps if they found a way to get the audio from inside the group during the run-ins to the sprints. One of the coolest things about racing that I can't seem to explain to people is the sound from the inside of the group moving over 30 mph during the last lap of even a Cat 4 Crit. I would love to see what that is like when the individual teams are fighting to get their boys up front. At the very least they could have used some higher tempo music during the sprints (Rage Against the Machine seemed more fitting than classical music).
