Rob - re-read that. "Paper Mache Style" is what he said. AKA: the "method" by which the form is shaped. He goes on to add "NASA grade microfiber" (AKA; awesome shit.). He's not hacking the D2 in the least bit. He's just noting the way those kinds of custom shoes are "formed" when made. To say "paper mache" is actually a very good way of expressing that.

Great Eurobike round-up, but the last time the "general area was obliterated", we were known as the US Army Air *Corps*.

D2's are made from paper mache? WTF. Really have you ridden them. They beat the shit out of the SIDI's and BONTS I've attempted to ride. I'll stick to D2s.

Sounds like someone was informed that Fizik won't allow online sales of their shoes next season. Funny..... I had the EXACT opposite assesment of the Giro and Fizik shoes you guys did. Giro, uninspired and the soles are curved such that they were causing some problems with Speedplay and Keo cleats. The Fizik shoes have a VERY substantial insole that is heatable and moldable. Fit and finish was top notch. Giro left me with the same feeling the PI shoes do..... yeah they're shoes alright. The comments about the vaporware powemeters and Kask are dead on though...

I am mildly surprised to note that you did not even make mention of the Pro Tour races in Quebec City and Montreal this week. Perhaps after getting slapped down in your post on the subject several months back bemoaning the lack of sponsorship when you failed to grasp that it was the governments themselves that guaranteed all funding for 5 years has something to do with it? Sour grapes about Canada getting these and not the US? Profi events in Canada have a long history and pre-date anything similar in the US by at least a decade or so. Great article on Velonews about that very fact today (and I absolutely shudder to ever recommend anything found on Velonews).

Lap Dancers yes, sometimes wrenching feels that sordid. Forget speedplay - Who likes tightening cleat screws every couple of weeks ? Welcome back, good column!

Did you go to the show last year? Lime green was LAST year. This year was black on black as in matt black graphics on gloss black or visa versa. See new Time frame or is that something else you don't stock?

Strange bedfellows LOOK and Polar. Last check, Polar still doesn't support Mac OS, so they are a No Go. Polar's pretty much proven they're bad at power meter technology. Why did LOOK need this relationship? You're right, the price is a buzz-kill, like most of this stuff.

Great to have you back, B! But...no early take on the Vuelta? I really like the varied terrain, time bonuses and wacky stuff (night TTT) the "big" grand tour thumbs its nose at.

Lime was hot in interior design a couple of years ago. So, since products take a couple of years of development to get to market, it would hit the bike industry now. I'd love to tell you what color is hot now but nobody is building anything presently ;-(

big yawn. your attempts at trend setting and hucksterism are getting old. one would think a trip to Europe would get you out of your provincial head, and give us some information we can use. little rock? keep it.

Gotta say, the Willier Cento1 had a very unorthodox mix of components not often seen on Italian bikes of this caliber. FSA bars, SRAM Red, Ritchey wheels... can't say I love it, but it is nice to see them stray from the standard Campy-across-the-board stuff component kit.

Nice to have you back. Line of the piece-"Sometimes I think they're like lap dancers -- paid to make fantasy true, paid to see the scary side of people with some money" Sometimes I wonder who puts together some peoples bikes and why they would let them out of the front door looking like that...

I agree on the new Giro shoe. Very much the real deal indeed. Can't wait to ride them. Fizik is making a terrible mistake by using kangaroo leather. Hopefully that will change before they go to market.

Shout out for Adidas cycling shoes. Just saying. // Funny, your mentioning lime green. While I agree that the Wilier Cento1 in molten gorgeous is h.o.t., I got my fill of that side of the color spectrum after re-watching the requisite LF memorial clips from the 80's. Chartreuse, may you rot in heck. // Polar: My exact reaction. What the cuss? Case study there. // Geox with a budget of $50 million? Are they co-sponsoring a F1 team on the side?

I'm really disappointed to hear that about the new Fizik shoes. I thought their design was more understated which is more to my taste, and on the weekends group ride we were discussing which color we would be getting. Bummed. Hopefully the finished product is more polished. Can you confirm that the Giro's do not have replaceable heel pads? Thats a show stopper IMHO.

Kind of disappointing to see lime green as the color of the show two years in a row. Last year you couldn't go 3 booths without seeing it. Apparently companies are really trying to cater to the charity rider by blending safety into the design.
