"Oral vernacular" is redundant and misleading: Language is spoken and its changes are transmitted regardless of the unduly privileged written form. Some fucktard ad exec decides SRAM should be pronounced a certain way and you ask a speaker, not by decoding the letters. You are all very well-trained consumers, though.

You will have to be getting sick at the thought of Garmin and Cervelo joining forces- Will your hatred for JV/Garmin be negated by your love Cervelo?

SSSS-RAM is the most ridiculous pronunciation I've ever heard, and until the Tour commercials I've never heard this particular mangled phonetic. S-RAM and "Keh"syrium yes...standard issue Fred verbiage. Be my guest and call is SSSS-RAM and I'll be certain to mark you down in my book as a total idiot.
Try saying this 5x fast "SSSS-RAM Sucks" or try "Sch-RAM Sucks" the latter is so much easier. Campy for life :)

Re: Campy & Sram: On one hand, Sram has accomplished a marketing coup in its road foray. But at what cost? As a reading cyclist, I've seen how wide and deep they have cast their marketing net. As someone working in the biz, I've heard privately of the costs of ProTour sponsorships. The sponsorships, be it at the ProTour or local level, costs money. The fact that they sold 40% of their equity to LBMB back in 2008, it seems to me, to speak for itself. One doesn't re-mortgage the house, or worse sell off nearly half of it, just for fun.
Re: WN hiatus: Thanks for all your issues/blogs thus far. Hope you will return healed. Q: Will you be able to ride (or How long will you have to be off your bike)?

The only thing I'd add to the letter about Campy: get professional ITA>ENG translators. Seriously - the small ring is now "threatened"? This is why translation is a three step process...

Here's a link to Senior Campagnolo's response to Embrocation's open letter: http://www.embrocationmagazine.com/online/a-response-letter-from-mr-campangolo
I'll leave it to you all to decide whether or not Campy cares about the American market.

Campagnolo - I've heard Phil say it on TV numerous times, but can we really trust him? So how is it pronounced? And no.. "Campy" is not a correct answer. :) Kam-pag-no-low? Kim-pan-nulo? Kumqwat?

Looks like Rob Forbes just may have perfected the English Racer, Bravo! I miss my Triumph, even if it slipped gears, the brakes were ornamental and every part, except the frame, rusted within 6 months.
Take care of the shoulder.

At the risk of being elitist to a fellow commenter (oh hell, let's just go for it), it's a "gruppo" only if it comes from Italy. Shimano and SRAM (the "ch" is silent in SRAM) don't make gruppos; they make component groups.
Ciao for niao and speedy recovery Brendan.

WTF????? Hiatus fits in with your blog, as well as a Portland bike builder in the Carbon Fibre section of BMC. Absolutely not acceptable. Now I might be forced to read newspapers with my morning coffee. Not good at all. One hand typing works well, just much slower, which means you can work on your impeccable semantics and story line that much more. A win win situation.
Here's another solution. With the painfully high figures of unemployment, you can contribute to society by hiring a part time typist. Buy her a cream white Public bike, and hook her up with http://www.copenhagencyclechic.com/ for style tips. If you want to sign her up for full time employment, I'm sure a http://www.larryvsharry.com/english/index.html bullit bike will come in handy for the remainder of her work day :)
Get well soon dude!!!

SRAM has taken market share from shimano, and for good reason, have you used the new ultegra? But let's be clear, the open letter from the hipsters at embro was preety lame. There's campy and then everything else and the only snobby people are the fools at embro and their silly look at me body accessories disguised as tattoos. Campy rocks and as for learning to pronouncer a name, well Campy has everyone running for second there, too.
Respect!!!!! I'm done with you. Next.

I know plenty of people who say put the "ch" in SRAM. They are very far from poor riders. It's OK to be elitist, but grammar mongering is, in no way, elitist.

All the best with your surgery. Look forward to seeing you back soon; almost as much as I'd like to see Campy enter the OEM game in North America. With the resurgence of SRAM (yes, no "sh", even here in Canada), we'd finally have holy trinity of gruppo options.

I'd endorse the Performance marriage you describe. I bought my Schwinn Peloton at Performance and the wrenches in the back of the shop barely know what to do with it because they don't see enough of them. It helps now that their house brand is carbon-framed, but when I went in with a problem and say the guy approaching my bike with a breaker bar I told him to get the hell away from my bike and took it to the high-end bike shop in town.
The bike deal nerwork is the same as the auto dealer network. The relationship between auto mfgs and their dealers is terribly broken and a proximate cause for why car mfgs can't stay reliably profitable or on top of consumer trends. Less of that in the bike industry would be welcome.

SRAM Neutral support is the best. I know two people who have crashed in crits and damaged their SRAM levers. After the race, when the returned to the pit to pick up their bikes, the SRAM crew and replaced both levers with new RED! One guy was upgraded from Force. All for no charge. Everyone I race with is switching to SRAM for this reason (if they haven't already).
