Gee, What is it with Specialized? Poor Andy Schleck had to change his bike today on the PARADE route to Paris. Bjarne Riis looked like he was gonna kill somebody. D'OH!

Thanks for posting the Pinarello photos. You just made my Prince seem inadequate. "Oh Aaaaandy!"

Sorry but MY Canada watches the tour live and on replay IN HD MODE with amazing analysis on CANAL EVASION. We have no care for Versus, non monsieur. See you for the UCI, bitches !

Giro shoes are so ugly on levi, they are also discontinuing the sunglass line, not sure why, i love the haviks, sad to see such top eyewear go away for ugly shoes.

Racing is a team sport. If fining or relegating the leadout man isn't going to be a deterrent, why not relegate anyone on their team to the back instead of an individual disqualification? That way the team doesn't benefit from an unfair win and the leadout man will be pressured to play by the rules.

I agree with David from 7/20 - I am at the end - all time previously spent reading this blog (and others) will now be spent riding.

Didn't you apologize to Garmin on this blog a year or two ago? We know you don't like JV, but should you take that out on the entire team? Regardless........love your blog.

The BBC's "financial documents" look like a simple list of expenses for PR trips-hardly a smoking gun. I'm disappointed in them for posting that crap, I'm disappointed in you for quoting it without looking at it more closely. What the hell is wrong with this sport? All anyone wants to do is whine about everything. No wonder it doesn't grow, everything written about it is so godawful negative. So-and-so is a doper, his bike is no good, he's not racing right. You people make UFC fans look in tellectual.

Your Garmin hate has gotten ridiculous and just makes you look petty. Hesjedal's riding superbly, they've had a lot of bad luck, and in spite having a cracked wrist, Farrar finishes second while dodging Renshaw's intentional crappy riding (Renshaw looked back, so it's hard to believe he missed Farrar charging up). Garmin didn't DQ Renshaw, the judges did. I wonder what you would have said if the roles of Garmin and HTC were reversed?

I don't hate Garmin, but the facts are that this is their third straight Tour and they've still never won a stage, what other teams can match that (Milram, is the answer, and their sponsor hunt is dead in the water). Watching Ryder is great, Millar into Barcelona last year was inspiring, for Farrar, being a sprinter now is like playing against Jordan - but still you've got to find a way to get it done. If Sky don't win much in the second half of the season expect the same criticism, but at least Wiggo's come out and said he knows he blew it this year.

A DSQ for Renshaw was the only option. Otherwise what's to stop it turning into rollerderby ?

I still don't get all the Garm*n hate. I can't say I love them, but to deride the team's Tour performance just smacks of schadenfreude when (a) their big GC hope crashed out on a stage where everyone crashed; (b) their big sprint hope's wrist has been busted since the second stage; and (c) they've got a guy in the top 10 on the GC who is still trying to get into any break he can in the mountains.

I couldnt find where anyone else had added clarity to the obvious so ... Spartacus = Cancellara (sp?)

What's up with the hate on Garmin? A fashion thing (?!) or is it because Vaughters doesn't drink the Lance Kool-Aid? I actually find JV's lucidity refreshing. He's sort of the opposite of the guys over @ VS.

Anyone else notice the CULT (Ceramic Ultimate Level Technology) sticker on the SR 11 crank arm? "Maximum smoothness for maximum performance"? Seriously? Did Campy just lift that from some erectile dysfunction meds marketing campaign? Yeesh. Not feeling the red either. @Dave Stoller from Fairfield: nice handle, but shouldn't it be Bloomington, IN?

Regarding Lance and can't quit, he already has. However, I'm pretty sure that I couldn't have gotten up from this. He is the red flash across the road. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8Wn086YpSA

Well, if Tommy D was in the Garm*n line up they'd be doing great. Wait, just threw up a little bit in my nouth.

"Spartacus was a Roman slave. His wages were bread and water. I suspect Larter gets more than that from Specialized." Are you sure you're at the right website Ralph? 2011 Campy looks tacky with all that red.

Best way to watch the tour is eurosport via cyclingfans.com. Video is choppy but the Brits know how to announce things...speaking of which, thanks guys for the ESPN World Cup calls.

I don't know how long it took me to look at the Pinarello "photo dump".. But it was awesome! I just studied them and time seemed to stop. I liked that you took some pics of the Taiwan stickers too and the MTB's are pretty sexy as well! Good stuff man!

re the "Bribe". This is not news - I read this story at least 5 years ago. Why has the press picked this up like it's some extraordinary new information? 'Cause some hacked off misanthrope claims it was a bribe? This story was broken ages ago. The rational then was to insure that desperate young pros didn't use flourine based artificial hemoglobin. The UCI admitted it then, and said where the funds came from (Armstrong).

The only injustice regarding Renshaw's DQ was that there wasn't a massive fine to accompany it. Who writes this blog? Obviously someone who's never gone down in a violent crash during a sprint caused by some jerk trying too hard to close the door on a faster rival.
- Frank, Erie, PA

July 19, 2010

Anyone bad-ass enough to race the Tour with a fractured elbow should not be referred to as "Cuddles" by anyone. As someone who is generally neutral on the argyle-wearers I'll say that Renshaw should have been fined and relegated but not DQ'd. Almost as bad as the Versus boys ignoring LA's legal troubles are their ham-handed efforts at keeping him relevant in the race-- e.g., hyping the team GC and his potential for stage wins. If The Academy ever has a category for Best Computer-Generated Youtube Series (Comedy), I'm nominating FrankiedelPonte. His clips showing the "reactions'" of Lance, Levi, and Johan to events in the TdF are priceless. Thumbs down on the new Campagnolo 11 graphics. They should leave "red" to SRAM.

Personally, I love watching cycling with a foreign language commentary. Flemish is my favorite. I wish I could get it for football games. Garmin is better than Milram. Does anyone miss Valverde? I didn't think so.
- steve, miami

July 19, 2010

Again, memo to all the Versus whiners - just watch the feeds online on cyclingfans.com and brush up on your foreign language skills. The French feed is worth the price of admission for Laurent Fignon's color commentary alone! If learning an additional language isn't your thing (and really it should be everyone's), just mute the feed and follow along with Bicycling/Velonews/CyclingNews/whatever other live blog is happening at the same time. and just be happy you are able to watch it SOMEWHERE.

Come on - Garmin's biggest victory has been the performance of Ryder Hesjedal. It's been a while since we've seen a top-ten Canadian GC performance!

July 19, 2010

There are Garmin fans that think Renshaw's DQ was too harsh, and everyone seems to agree that fining or relegating a leadout man isn't going to do anything. They should have ordered Dean and Renshaw to set the tempo for the next two stages.

Lack of prime-time tour coverage in Canada: The worst of it is that the OLN (the "Outdoor Life Network") pre-empts it in favour of something called "Operation Repo".

Couldn't agree more on Cadel this year. His stage win in the Giro was the best win I've seen in years.

I see your point on Lance, but has anyone explained why he's not working for Levi?
