The only thing not PRO is being fat like me.

Stephen, The ALB, No, you're not the only one. I don't own any Rapha, and don't know anyone who does. I'm likely not their target demographic though, as I ride an older C'dale w Ultegra because that's all I'm willing to risk in the weekly crit race. I've never tried any Rapha on, or even felt the nap of the knit, but the marketing tends to leave me non-plussed - sort of J Peterman-esque.

Pro? The only thing pro is being paid money to ride in pro level races. Well supported amateur? Not pro. Local hero that is still winning local races and maybe one day could have been pro? Not pro. Guy that likes to ride around wearing the same kit and riding the same bike as his favorite rider? Not pro.

Am I the only one who thinks Rapha is for posers and/ or wealthy yuppies with more money than sense.

re: spriritualized Kexp radio had a pretty good short documentary on the recording of that album ( one of my favorites as well). You can listen to it here: http://blog.kexp.org/blog/2009/10/14/kexp-documentaries-psychedelics-%E2%80%93-spiritualized/

I believe Toronto's Mariposa has closed, although I think Noah Rosen's VeloColour is beautifully restoring some of them...

Here I thought that I could tune in here for some pithy comments on Cuddles' latest move. Is that Mariposa by Mike Barry's dad? I didn't realize he'd been making bikes in the headset era.

Here are some reasons to go to NAHBS 2010. I have never been, but suddenly my Cento Uno seems inadequate: http://espressosnob.wordpress.com/2009/10/23/velocolour-2009-yyz/ http://espressosnob.wordpress.com/2009/10/29/bikes-bikes-bikes/

Hey, is that title an Ass Ponys reference? Cool!

the gang over at pitchfork are taking themselves a little too uber-seriously with the inlusion of those 2 pavement albums so high up that list. as for my personal favourite TT pain cave warm up music, Wu-Tang's 36 Chambers is still the go to album. Legend.

That's it. I'm taking the bait. There is no way in hell Kid A is a better album than Funeral. It doesn't even compare. And OK Computer wins out over Slanted and Enchanted or In an Aeroplane Over the Sea for best album of the 90's? I call total BS. Radiohead is ok, but what Pitchfork has essentially done is crown them "best band ever!" I'm sick of Tom Yorke's pretentious babbling about how meaningful and deep his sons are. Give me a break. There is way better stuff out there.

Thank you for keeping PRO. It is one of the cornerstones to your establishment. Mariposa is no longer, Mike Barry Sr. has closed the doors - buy up on the 'bay or someone who's willing to sell theirs. Yeah - that Merckx shot is freaking PRO. Thanks for sharing...
- Seb, Toronto

November 02, 2009

That Merckx shot is, indeed, from the 69 Tour. In 1970 his team became Faemino and after that he rode for Molteni until his sponsor changed to Fiat.

November 02, 2009

OK, if you're going to keep PRO, can we at least agree RAPHA = Non-PRO?

no OCD here, look closely and you will note his teammate in the picture, he is holding a seatpost w/saddle in his hands. I don't think Eddy was fiddling, I think he was having a problem with the bolt not holding. i can only assume his teammate dropped back to get a spare just in case...

Great photo. It was always reported that Merckx was an incessant fiddler with his position on the bike due to the crash on the track in Blois that twisted his pelvis (and, sadly, killed his derny driver). But, the photo looks like it might be from his inaugral Tour in July of '69 and, hence, before that accident even occurred. "OCD is an energy", indeed.

"Ladies and Gentlemen" has indeed been my accompaniment for so many early morning rides before work. "200 Bars" is the cooldown before I have to stop doing what I love and go into the place that I hate, but I only go because it pays for what I love. I reserve "Reign in Blood" and "Damaged" for the really hard days of the program in which I want to have the hard hurt of intervals in my legs all day long.
