I'd go for texting.

Seriously: I read CN's review of the Boardman team carbon yesterday - it was the choppiest review I've ever read. It was like amateur Frankie Andreu. A far cry from James Huang's style.

Texts would be great

First, whoever you are talking to about text is a liar - the carriers will charge for text that aren't either premium or part of a content company who makes millions for the carrier. Trust me, I am in the biz - mark my words. Plan on paying a penny or two per text - go google verizon charging three cents per text - it's coming. As for a derny, what was the old derny race they got rid of a few years ago. It was great.

I'd prefer to see the one a week special as an email, but realize that it could/should also go to text and twitter. Allow each person to decide how they want to receive the special.

Yes to the Competitive Cyclist special once a week!

Yes James Huang has a nice style. But his review/critique reads like a search to find issues rather than a deeply nuanced exploration and understanding of 7900. Some of his points are simply personal ergo dynamics attachments or habits. I certainly wouldn't be changing a planned purchase because of his review. Your writing seems to be born of a fascinating ongoing self awareness free of contrivance. The more sheep you disturb the better!

Text if it could be sent anywhere, including my e-mail, since I open my cell phone once a quarter. 7900 review caused lost two sales immediately that I know of from two high-end DA multi-bike guys, one of whom was me. Even had me considering Campy for a while until I came to my senses. No clack-clack Red for me either. 7800 it remains.

Text or twitter, both will work and a great idea!
- Chris, Cincinnati

As a person who refuses to opt into the cell phone world I would not find your text messages very intereting or usefull, unless of course you mean text only emails, then it would be acceptable.
- Peter, Concord, NH

Jacques Anquetil used to get his swerve on by motorpacing a derny for hours on end. Of course, he had the constitution of a grizzly bear and the pain threshold of a block on granite. The rest of us will be sucking our thumbs whilst bleeding profusely from our eyeballs and crying for our mommies. I'm gonna start first thing in the morning.

Totally agree with characterization of James Huang's reporting -- especially the DA 7900 review.

Text messages would be cool. Maybe you could even lop an extra nickel off the sale price so the Luddites without unlimited texting would have one less thing to complain about. Those Derringers are whack, nearly got taken out once by a couple of fools riding them on the sidewalk. And they really don't have a lot of horsepower going uphill. On a ride last summer we passed a guy on one trying to get up to Mullholland. The hammer was down and he couldn't have been going more than 5mph. Finally, while updates are more than sporadic, douchebagsonbikes.blogspot.com is a nice showcase of some of the stuff the Snob misses.

I'm guessing I'm in the minority, but the more I see of Di2 the less I want it anywhere near my bike. Regarding the text offers, personally, I'm sort of over woot-like sales. I always respect(ed) businesses that price their inventory competitively from the get-go. But, then, high-end cycling manufacturers occasionally suffer from the same over abundance of inventory just like the bottom feeders, so I'm sure CC can get their mitts on some very nice stuff at prices you want to "pass along." Go for it.

Yes, re the text message special
- Leonard, Santa Barbara

Yes to the Texting plan. Your e-mail advertising blasts are the only ones I let touch my inbox.

The steady decline of Cyclingnews is certainly sad to see; however, there are still some shining lights to be found there. In addition to James Huang's insightful product reviews, Steve Hogg continues to impress with his biomechanical expertise in Cyclingnews' Fitness Q&A section. Indeed, if Cyclingnews leave's any sort of tangible legacy, it will probably be found on the bikes and in the legs of those many cyclists he has been able to help over time.

You write great stuff. Love it. I can see why your creative mind created a company like you did. Talent at work. As for the special via Text. If you make it good enough, we will be there. Once a week is all anyone should want. Keep up the good work and let us pray that cycling.tv gets their head out of.....well, you know where.
