NOTE TO DARIO

Hi – I hope you enjoy a small glimpse into my world. I have never ridden a bicycle you made but via the internet I have learned much about you and your ideas regarding making bicycles. Your notion of making bicycles reminds me of my first sculpture teacher’s approach to making art. Your work and your approach is inspirational to me. Like you I am also a cancer survivor. From what I have read, you are fighting cancer on your terms, and therefore, and you are not losing yourself by way of the medical process of treating cancer. Please focus on taking care of yourself and on being positive, and above all do not lose yourself; that is the advice I followed and it worked for me. The photo is of me and Mica – she is congratulating me after a bicycle race. Our first adventure together started 2 weeks after CT scans showed my cancer was officially in remission, and consisted was 4 weeks of camping and conducting geologic field work. Best of luck with everything, I know you will be fine.

Dario, I hope that is not too forward of me to address you so. While as a civil servant I have never been able to afford the purchase of one of you fine frames I have been dreaming. To my mind, and obviously yours, something that simply "works" is not enough, if it is worth doing, it is worth doing beautifully. When we live like this then there is nothing to hide, even if we are silent, our soul is there for those with eyes to see. Your creations are not only bring inspiration to ride but force us to consider where does function end and art begin? Know that you are in many thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for all you've done over the years and best of luck in the future from all of those who you've helped teach that having fun is the most important part of the ride. Even though my bike was made on an assembly line in Taiwan I always pretend it has some that Italian flair to it. Sure we all do this because we like to ride hard but if we can't be exuberant about it sometimes then what's the point?
