Easton learns by doing. And this EC90 XC Disc 26in Wheelset is the result of them mastering their carbon rim-building process during the development of the carbon Haven wheels. Their proprietary Armored Ballistic Composite has proven its worth with the beefier all-mountain Haven's, and Easton's engineers were able to exploit its strength and durability characteristics to create the lightest true UST wheelset on the market, the EC90 XC Disc.

Easton is pioneering the use of some new materials along with familiar ones to create a cross-country wheelset with weights more equivalent to lightweight road wheels. In comparison to the alloy EA90 XC wheels, the big difference for the EC90 XC carbon wheels is the new composite rim and the loss of a half pound of rotating mass. This weight reduction amounts to a serious seat-of-the-pants ...so light, you'll instantly notice the difference. Want to feel faster? Get these wheels... performance gains. They'll accelerate like nothing you've ever ridden before. The rims combine carbon fiber with high modulus polyethylene, or HMPE (although you might know it as Spectra) in an epoxy resin system that has been rubberized to further add impact strength. The combination of these materials gives them a superior strength to weight ratio.

They have the coveted UST tubeless logo which means that they are guaranteed tubeless compatible, and possess all of the shaping and structural requirements to meet the stringent standards for certification. In practical terms, you can seat a UST tire on these wheels by hand and with only a floor pump -- no mess and no fuss. Creating a UST approved rim is tricky, but Easton found a great way to get around the task of eliminating the spoke penetrations in the outer wall of the rim. The straight-pull Sapim double-butted spokes are placed in the hub in a 3-cross pattern as usual, but the red anodized alloy nipples are specific for this wheel. They're both internally and externally threaded. When the spokes are drawn into the nipples, they're simultaneously threading into the alloy inserts in the inner wall of the rim. They can be trued exactly like a wheel with standard nipples. Only the included valve stems pierce the entire cross-section of the rim. The rim has a 19mm inside width to allow the fitment of XC oriented tires up to 2.3 " wide.

The EC90 hubs are the same CNC machined units you'll find on the EA90 XC wheels. The shells are crafted from 7050 T-6 aluminum and anodized red to provide some flash. Sealed cartridge bearings keep your wheels running smoothly, even if you ride through sloppy mud. The freehub body is made from the same 7050 alloy, saving a few grams over a typical steel part.

The Easton EC90 XC Disc 26in Wheelset is race-ready, yet tough enough for everyday adventures too. Your selection will be based on the front hub configuration -- it's available for use with a standard quick release or 15mm thru-axle, however it can be converted either way with the appropriate parts from Easton. The rear hub is convertible and includes all the parts you'll need to run a quick release or 12x135mm and 12x142mm thru-axles.

The EC90 XC wheels carry Easton's standard 2-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.
