With the 110 Headset, Cane Creek entered territory long held by Chris King at the top of the aftermarket headset heap. But where King refuses to approach the integrated headset, Cane Creek has an easy run at domination. This Cane Creek 110-Series Integrated Headset takes a cost-is-no-object approach to manufacturing. With their 110 Headset, you get something so beautifully well-made that it has a full 110 year warranty. And with Cane Creek showing that kind of confidence in their product, it's more of a bargain than you might initially think.
The 110-Series Integrated Headset is made with the lowest-friction, sealed stainless steel cartridge bearings available. Furthermore, the individual balls are 5/32" -- oversized by headset standards -- in order to minimize rolling resistance (i.e. giving it added smoothness) and to increase durability. The cartridge bearings are sealed with what Cane Creek likes to call a Split Lip Seal, which has two contact seals per side to better keep out contaminants and hold in grease. To augment the seals on the cartridge bearings, Cane Creek adds seals to the crown race and top assembly. For what it's worth, Cane Creek recommends occasionally rotating the bearings -- top to bottom, bottom to top -- in order to lengthen bearing life since the bottom bearing gets about 90% of the wear & tear in a headset. And since the bearings simply drop into the seats inside the head tube, they're easy to remove and re-install.
The Cane Creek 110-Series Integrated Headset is a fantastic upgrade for any bike built with a 1-1/8" standard integrated head tube. It gives you performance no less sweet than what you get from a King NoThreadset. And, like King, it comes in numerous polished and anodized colors -- Black, Blue, Purple, Red, and Silver. The Clip-Seal in the upper assembly holds all the parts together, including the compression ring. This makes assembly a cinch, since there are no loose parts to misplace or install backwards. Cane Creek adds laser etched graphics to the top cover, including their Skink logo. This is an integrated headset that will mate a fork with a straight 1-1/8" steerer tube to a 1-1/8" straight head tube having a 41.1mm i.d. The top bearing cover is compatible with Cane Creek Interlok spacers. The stack height for the top bearing cover assembly is 15mm and the bottom is a mere 1mm.
