Since the era of 8-speed drivetrains Campagnolo offered their Record cassettes in two general styles: Steel/Titanium and Titanium. The latter cost substantially more, weighed notably less, and wore at a more rapid rate. This metallurgic duality existed for the 8-speed, 9-speed, and 10-speed eras. For the 11-speed era, though, Campagnolo has done us right by simplifying the way they offer cassettes. This version, the Super Record 11Ultra Shift cassette, is Campagnolo's lightest option. While it's offered in multiple gearing ratios, it only comes in one composition, where the highest 5 cogs (i.e. your 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15) are nickel/chrome-coated steel, and the low 6 cogs are made from Titanium.

Why doesn't Campagnolo offer a full-Ti 11 speed cassette? For two reasons: (1) The highest 5 cogs have the least amount of surface area, so the weight savings derived from changing, for example, an 11t cog from steel to Ti is minimal. But the expense of changing these high cogs to Ti would cause the overall cost of the cassette to skyrocket. (2) The high 5 cogs have a greater percentage of the cog wrapped in the chain. This means your 11t cog wears at a rate greater than a 25t cog. Since Ti is a relatively softer material than steel, you'd wear high Ti cogs at an exceptionally quick rate, decreasing the useful lifespan of the cassette. By going with a steel/Ti mix with the Super Record 11 cassette, Campagnolo provides you the best combination of weight savings, durability, and cost.

The weight savings offered by the Super Record 11 cassette isn't just a function of the 6 Ti cogs. These 6 cogs are held together in 2 groups of 3, with each group riveted together by a splined aluminum "frame". These frames save weight, and add to the overall increase in torsional stiffness you'll experience with the Super Record 11 cassette.

The Super Record 11 cassette is built with Campagnolo's Ultra Shift technology. Ultra Shift means several things, including a new style of cog tooth synchronization. Note how the teeth on each cog look similar at the same place on each cog. This enhances shifting precision and reduces stress (thereby increasing the lifespan) of your chain. And you'll note how select teeth on each cog have a sharkfin-like shape. This shape serves as a gateway for upshifts. The Ultra Shift cog design works hand-in-hand with your 11 speed Ergopower shift levers to provide quicker shifts with less effort. According to Campagnolo, Ultra Shift requires 13% less effort to achieve rear derailleur shifts in comparison to pre-Ultra Shift.

The Campagnolo Super Record 11 cassette comes with a lightweight alloy lockring. It's available in 5 ratios: 11-23, 11-25, 12-25, 12-27, and 12-29.
