Singletrack minded.

Short of screen-printed hoodies and outsourced race-wear, Yeti Cycles' left the mountain-bike clothing business to those who do it best. The problem was, 'their best' didn't fill the expectations of the passionate crew from Golden, Colorado. So, Yeti took the next logical step and enlisted the help of established apparel designers, resulting in the production of Yeti's first mountain-specific clothing line. And with pieces like the cross-country-dedicated Teller Shorts to fill those lofty expectations, we're sure that we'll be seeing plenty of Yeti on the trail this spring.

And, if the Teller shorts are anything to go by, Yeti's on the right track. These shorts feature an ultra-light stretch polyester composition, making them the optimal choice for summer XC riding. And with nothing added but the essentials, the Teller shorts promote high-speed, long-distance riding for the eternal minimalist. This is furthered by the material's focus on breathability and moisture management. So, you'll stay cool and dry throughout the day.

Adding to the breathability are inseam vent rivets, however, air flow isn't the only requirement for a quality pair of shorts. In fact, fit is of equal value. But, as we're sure that you know, mountain biking places specific requirements on designers. Aware of this, Yeti designed the Teller to be neither baggy or skinny. Instead, they exist somewhere in the middle. More importantly, though, pre-articulated panels were added in order to encourage a full freedom of movement. In addition to this, the seamless, gusseted crotch ensures miles of pedaling comfort. To secure this fit, Yeti incorporated its new Shok-N-Lok waist adjustment. This lets you quickly and easily adjust the waist band while riding for the perfect fit and feel.

The Tellers, like all Yeti shorts, are also compatible with the Italian chamois-holding Yeti Liner shorts. Additionally, the Tellers feature a key pocket, two hand pockets, and a hidden zip closure for storing all of your ride essentials.

The Yeti Cycles Teller Shorts are available in the colors Black and Grey and in five sizes from Small to XX-Large. Please note that Yeti bases its sizing from the waist, so a Small is size 30, Medium is size 32, Large is size 34, X-Large is size 36, and XX-Large is size 38.

  • Stretch polyester with pre-articulated panels
  • Seamless, gusseted crotch
  • Inseam vent rivets
  • Shok-N-Lok waist adjustment

Some issues with the best shorts ever!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

I live in these shorts all summer. I have purchased about 7 over the years. I have notices major flaw in the yeti teller's. The biggest is the pockets will fail both front and back over time. The shorts would last years befor the pockets fails. I wish they would address this issue. Also no belt loops is a drag. Also they run small... waist 35 and the Xl is still pretty tight. They are soooo close to perfection but not there yet.

Teller on the Mountain

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I pretty much lived in these shorts on our last trip to Moab. I've got 2 pairs, a small and medium. My waist is 31", and the smalls fit fine, and the mediums are a little big, but leave better length for use with knee pads. They also have an internal cinch at the wast. The front zip pockets keep anything safe when you're on the bike, and are great for keeping stuff organized pre and post ride. A velcro rear pocket also comes in handy for day to day use. I've even left my wallet back there on a ride and did notice it until I got back to the car.

Can't beat Yeti when it comes to purpose-made mtb shorts! I own the Freeland, Teller, and previously women's Norrie shorts (switched to their men's shorts for longer inseam length) and all have been close to perfect for riding in. I've found that the Teller shorts are great for most trail riding, as they're lighter weight and less burly than the Freeland shorts, but the fabric is tough where you need it to be. I don't even notice these when I'm riding which is a huge plus. Agree that the sizing might be a little small but I'm converting from women's sizing which is a little wonky anyway. So far so good!

Favorite Shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

The Yeti Tellers shorts are super comfy and very well thought out. I also wear Fox's Ranger shorts. I do love those, but these are far more comfortable. I love the details like how the material on top of your thighs is tougher, but elsewhere it's soft and more breathable. It's also nice having zippered pockets that also function as vents. I bought them in the Magnet color and they look perfect no matter what shirt I wear.

As for sizing, I have a 32" waist and I purchased size Large (34). They fit perfectly over my Yeti Como liners in size Medium (32).

Comfy, go-to shorts with sizing issues

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Xxl

First, the material on these things is killer. Breathable, soft and dries quickly. I love the length as they hang down around my knee and at 6'4" that's a rarity. They are nice enough to wear on a night out but also durable enough to wear on your commute or out on the trails without fear of ripping them up.

Big downside to these is the sizing. I'm a true 38" waist and that's what I bought...but these are really tight. Sometimes with shorts like these you'll get a bit of give in the waist but not these. The waist does not feel like it's going to give at all. I don't understand why they built in the shok-n-lok and didn't make the waist a little bigger given the fact you can easily tighten them up..These are easily 5 star shorts if the waist sizing was proper.

All that said I do love the shorts and wear them on a regular basis but really wish the sizing was a bit better.

sizing woes

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: small

The pair of first generation Teller shorts I bought in 2014 quickly earned the "best baggies I've ever owned" distinction. Breathable, comfortable waistband, perfect length, great colors.

So I was disappointed to discover the newer iteration dramatically changed the sizing. The small (30") fits more like a 28" at the waist, and the fit in the hips also shrank. What the heck, Yeti? Don't mess with a good thing.

I'd recommend these shorts to anyone looking for lightweight, minimalist baggies that don't scream "EndurBro" on the trail. Just mind the misleading sizing.

Comfortable, breathable, durable shorts.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

These have been put to the test on the White Rim trail, Black Canyon trail, Sedona trail system, and more. So comfortable and good looking that I often use them for casual all day wear. After hundreds of miles of use/abuse they look nearly new, no tears, fraying, snagging zippers. I wear 33 in waist when I can find it. These 34's fit as expected, just a little extra room around waist. The Shok-N-lok system works as advertised, is accessible, and is easy to cinch down when active and release when not. Would absolutely recommend.

Awesome shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I don't usually write reviews, I'm so stoked about these shorts I wanted to share. Haven't had them long, but these guys have become my favorites. I prefer a lighter short, these seem to strike a 'just right' balance of offering protection vs comfort, definitely an XC short tho. They make no noise at all; I read another review reference this fact before I bought them...I thought it was silly till I rode with these and realized how much noise my other favorite shorts (mavic) made. Love these shorts, would buy them again tomorrow.

Great shorts, but tear pretty easily.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: X-Large

I love the fit and feel of these shorts, so much so that after a few months I was up to three pair.

However, I unfortunately learned that in the right circumstances, these short tear really easily. The first pair got a little hung up on my saddle, and resulted in a small tear in the seat. By the time my ride ended, the shorts were destroyed.

My second pair pratically disintigrated when I took a spill on some loose dirt and rocks. I can't say for sure how other shorts would have faired, but I'm pretty my other brand of shorts wouldn't have shredded to pieces so easily.

So, I highly recomend these if you're easy on your gear. But if you are pushing your boundries, you probably want a short that can hold up to the abuse better.

Solid Shorts.

I am pretty hard on my mountain biking shorts. These bad boys have stood the test of time. I continually find myself grabbing these for all my rides. They super breathable and light weight yet durable. I love that both side pockets have zippers. They fit true to size and aren't too long like some bike shorts.

Chase the Yeti

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: L-34

I have gone through a lot of bike shorts but do not look any further than the Tellers. The gusseted crotch is designed to stand up for thousands of hours in the saddle pedaling. They are super light, breathable and dry quickly when wet. The zippered, mesh pockets keep your valuables or trail map from flying out on the descent. Like other reviewers I found these shorts slightly stretchy with some range of adjustment via the elastic cord inside the waist band. And there are no belt loops which did not bother me. Also they are easy to clean when you inevitably get mud or dirt (or your post-ride libation) on them. I am a 34 waist and that is what fit me best in Large.

Low-key appearance, solid quality

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 38

Fit felt true to size for me. I'm muscular in build and these shorts felt just right, not too tight or too loose in the thighs. Comfortable and low-key in appearance, quality construction, thin material feels good on hot rides. I appreciate that they don't come with a liner as I like to use the Gore bike boxers. Elastic waist cords with a clever cord-lock mechanism allows you to adjust sizing. Contrary to what a previous reviewer wrote, the fabric DOES have a wee bit of stretch to it. Good shorts but sizing can be way off

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: M

I have the older version of this short and it fit me perfectly in size medium. Just ordered another pair and it was a bit too tight. Not sure if they changed the sizing or if the pair I got was just defective but it measures 15.5 inches laid flat when its marked to fit size 32, my older pair measures just over 16 inches.

These shorts have no stretch whatsoever so they will be very uncomfortable if they are too tight. Also its kind of stupid that they removed the belt loops in the newer version given that they have no stretch and you will probably have to size up to get them to fit.

Currently the product images shown here are of the old version of these shorts which had 2 back pockets and belt loops, the new version has only one back pocket and no belt loops.

If they fit you right, these are great shorts for riding in hot weather, the breathe better than most other MTB shorts I've used and are still relatively durable given how lightweight they are.

More sweet shorts!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: XL

I have these as well as the Freeland. I usually wear a 34 in jeans but needed the XL/36 in both the Teller and the Freeland. These are a much better short for hot weather riding. The fabric is very light, the lines are clean, YKK zips, good snap buttons, no useless pockets, and no shoddy liner that you will want to replace anyway. I don't miss the cargo pockets of the Freeland and I feel that putting zippers on the hand pockets was a better design choice. I like that Yeti is generally shying away from velcro (the back pocket on these is an exception and could use a zipper). I'm not a fan of the waist adjustment cords since they create a lot of bunched up fabric. I would like to see the waistband of the Freeland put on the Teller. Also, more colors, please!

Love these

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: large

This is my second review of these. I've had 6 pairs & completely worn out 3 of them - they are awesome! I'm a 34 waist & the large fits perfectly (i tired med & was too small). The shorts are lightweight & likely wouldn't stand up to a ton of abuse but if you keep the wheels down you can't go wrong.

The older versions had two back pockets - now only one. I'd prefer two but can live with it. Have heard people knock them for being too light - I think that is a strength.

Excellent short

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I ordered a L and XL. L ended up fitting best. I wear a 34 jean size, but actual measurement if waist is 36. Waist of these shorts does fit snug, so if you are any bigger you'll need to size up. But, would rather have them a little tight than a little loose. Material is smooth and stretchy. Feels almost like a very thin soft shell, but is still breathable. Fit on legs is not too baggy, which I like.

Very nice, shoulda bought sooner!

These feel awesome to ride in. I wear a 33-34 in most everything and the 34 are just right. They do have a bit of a tubular cut, but are still great to ride in.

I'm also an avid golfer, so I'm used to lighter and cool material. These move with you as you ride, I love that.

Love 'em!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Great shorts! I just wish CC carried more colors. I'm a 34 waist and the Large fit perfectly. I like the zippered front pockets, and the rear has a velcro seal... helps keep your 20's where they need to be. They look stylish and function great as every day shorts. Very comfortable. Looking to pick up some more.

Great Short!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: XXL

Have used on and off the dirt, great short and has become my "go-to". I got the XXL, and it is just there for my 38-40 waist. I wish it was a tad bigger in the waist, but it makes me want some more miles to fit in them a little better;-)
