Better up and better down.

When we first heard tale of Yeti's latest co-ed project, the Beti line, we were a bit skeptical given that this is an industry still hungover from what felt like a decade-long glut of subpar women-specific models starting in the late-90s. It turns out that that the Beti bikes are almost the exact same as the corresponding non-Beti models, so the Beti ASRc X01 Complete Mountain Bike retains all the flexibility of the ASRc with the addition of some changes that amount to tweaking the cockpit setup. The Beti ASRc goes straight to the status of a race-bred XC bike that climbs like it has an engine and handles descents and trail furniture like a bike with one more inch of travel.

While the present trend of enduro machines means all-mountain bikes and gravity riding tend to enjoy the bulk of industry attention, we're even more impressed by low-travel bikes like the Beti ASRc that transcend the boundaries between XC, trail, and enduro bikes. The ASRc's head tube angle is slacker than a typical four-inch bike. Combined with its relatively low bottom bracket, this makes for a geometry that lays the machine out for line sticking control across terrain. The Beti ASRc's geometry and surprisingly capable suspension encourage a rider to push it as hard after dropping-in as the frame's low weight does while climbing.

As with virtually all bikes at this level, the Beti ASRc's low frame weight begins with carbon. The Beti version features the exact same construction as the ASR Carbon, which manifests as an extremely stiff chassis with a claimed weight as low as 4.2lb/1,900g. Yeti's choice of a single pivot suspension also contributes to weight loss, and the oversized pivot pins add yet another boost to stiffness. The rate-modifying link that guides Yeti's iconic loopstays teams up with FOX's 2016 DPS Factory shock, which — in a key departure from the standard ASRc — is tuned for lighter riders on the Beti. Sizes x-small and small continue this theme of accommodating smaller riders by sizing the wheels down from 29 to 27.5in, making for a lower standover height.

The other differences between the Beti and the plain ol' Yeti models mostly lie in the cockpit and touch points, with smaller grips, WTB's Diva saddle, 170mm crank arms, and handlebars that lose 4cm but are still relatively wide at 720mm. With the exception of different manufacturers (Easton instead of Thomson, for example), the rest of the build kit is effectively the same as the generic Yeti X01 build, with highlights including a SRAM X01 and X1 drivetrain, a 32 Float Factory fork, DT Swiss hubs, and Shimano's XT brakes and Ice-Tech rotors.
