Yeti Cycles ASR Carbon - 2012 $0.00
Rich with innovation, Yeti’s colorful racing history spans from the earliest dual-triangle rigid mountain bikes to the latest shapes, materials, and suspension. Assisted by Ivy-league engineers, input from thoroughbred racers, and an enthusiastic Tribe , Yeti continues to push the boundaries of what mountain bikes can do. The Yeti ASR Carbon carries the flag as Yeti’s pure cross-country race machine—and enhanced carbon composition for 2012 guarantees the distinctive turquoise and yellow competition jerseys will continue their menacing position from grassroots racing to World Cup events.
Back in ’94, Yeti produced the groundbreaking thermoplastic ARC AS LT. Aided by Kaiser Aerospace and Penske Racing, this bike broke all the rules. While considered a downhill bike at the time (comically the 2012 AS-R rivals its travel), and though only a handful were produced—For Race Only, of course—it’s a prime example of Yeti’s dedication to advancement through the application of space-age materials and pioneering suspension systems. Fast forward almost two decades and take a look at the ASR Carbon. Featuring a new weight and strength optimized lay-up, the 4.4lb (2kg) ASR C leaves no feature overlooked. Frame details like oversized chainstays and the ability to convert to a 142 x 12mm thru axle ensure pinpoint handling, while a press-in bottom bracket allows for an incredibly stiff and light BB interface. Titanium fasteners, composite bearings, and a carbon fiber dogbone further assist in weight reduction. You’ll also find a clean, internally routed derailleur cable on the chainstay and replaceable chain-slap protectors so the ASR C will look good for years to come.
In keeping with the ASR’s dedicated cross-country nature, a 100 – 120mm front fork will match up nicely to the Active Suspension’s super-efficient 98mm of travel. Yeti chose the highly versatile, tunable, and reliable Fox RP23 to handle rear-squish duties. The press-fit bottom bracket uses the BB-92 interface, which is compatible with both SRAM GPX and Shimano bottom brackets. The rear end offers clearance for 2.35in tires and 160mm rotors. You’ll need a 30.9mm seatpost and a 34.9mm traditional mount, bottom pull front derailleur. The Yeti ASR Carbon comes in three sizes: small, medium, and large. Yeti didn’t want to hide its high modulus skills, and the ASR’s raw Black carbon finish is proudly on display. (4.4lbs)
