A tale of big feet.

As its bigfoot namesake suggests, Yeti knows a thing or two about bikes with big footprints, but we usually measure them in terms of rear travel. For the 2016 ARC Carbon Mountain Bike Frame, the footprint metaphor is a bit more literal, with the size of the wheels changing to accommodate the size of the frame in order to keep ride characteristics similar across the range. The logic behind this graduated wheel sizing is beautiful in its simplicity — big frames get big wheels and smaller frames get proportionately smaller wheels — and the ARC Carbon's geometry bears the fruit of that logic.

The ARC began life with a geometry that was nearly identical to the Big Top, but there was never a Small or X-Small Big Top option. The reason for this is obvious, and can best be described using an analytical model: big wheels + small frame = huge trouble. For the Big Top, Yeti saw the issues with packing 29in wheels into compact frames and smartly stayed away, but the smaller sized ARC models overcame those barriers by dint of shorter chainstays, lower bottom brackets, and decreased standover height in order to bring a Big Top-esque geometry to shorter riders.

In addition to the geometry tweaks to the smaller sizes, Yeti tweaks the weight across the line, dropping nearly 1-1/2lb from the Big Top by building ARC out of monocoque carbon fiber. This is Yeti's first full-monocoque carbon hardtail, but it's far from Yeti's first dance with the black weave. From carbon pivots to full frames, Yeti's stable has had some form of carbon fiber for the better half of a decade. The ARC's smooth lines, tapered head tube, and 12x142mm rear axle complement the unyielding and snappy carbon structure.

Yeti's iconic looptail rear triangle constitutes another nod to yesteryear's ARC. It feeds into a wag-resistant, 73mm bottom bracket whose removable ISCG mounts mind the chain while your minding approaching obstacles. A high-direct mount takes the guess work out of front derailleur placement. Yeti recommends a range of 100-120mm fork travel, which situates the head tube at 70 degrees for the 100mm option and a few degrees slacker for the 120.
