Best thing to purchase for adventures

Someone told me the cargo box was the way to go. It would change the way I travel on trips. I looked at the cost and balked. Its expensive but, I needed a way to get skis and camping gear around in my sedan. I finally bought one and they were all right, it has made travelling SO much better.

The dual entry is very important. Sometimes I put the gear in on my driver side and then park too close to a snowbank or something to use that side to get gear. With the dual entry I can just go over to the passenger side.

Remember you cannot remove the key until you close the box. This is an important feature that makes sure or makes it really hard to drive away with the box wide open. Sometimes, especially when I really pack the box, I need to really push down along the entire edge of the box to make it close. If the box isnt closing easily thats all it really takes, get it closed and then go around the box and press down where you think gear inside is not allowing it to shut and can be compressed a bit.

I've owned this box for well over 5 years and never had an issue. I use it on a Thule Base rack with square bars. I do recommend getting the better bars be it Aeroblade's from Thule or the Yakima Whisper Bars. They are far less noisy and save on gas mileage loss.

If you have any questions such as:

Compatibility with other base racks?

How much can you fit in here?

How much Gas mileage per gallon do you lose?

Is it waterproof?

Yakima Sky Box

Box has been great. The open on both sides feature is really handy, especially if you have a smaller car. Not as big of a deal on a larger SUV where you can only reach one side. The feature that holds the key in place when the box is open is really helpful to not misplace the key, we have all done that. Had the older style Yakima box in the past, the new clamp jaw style mount is much quicker and easier than the old clamp from both ends. Overall very happy with this box

Great Tool

The reviews on this unit were great except the locking system. I can understand why the locking system gets a let than stellar review. However, If the operator takes care when opening the unit it works great. The unit worked great on our most recent trip. We probably overloaded the box with bags for five but the performance was great. Traveled in all types of weather and cargo was always dry. I would highly recommend this unit. Very easy to intall and very aerodynamic. No wind noise.

As golf enthusiasts, my wife and I will be traveling during the summer season to various parts of the country for sightseeing, golf and fishing. Will two sets of golf clubs fit easily in a Pro 18 cargo box?

    Cargo? Yes definitely!

This roofbox from Yakima is the perfect piece of equipment for outdoor enthusiasts. Easy to mount, roomier than you could expect. The ingenious locking mechanism is easy and safe and numerous inside hooks allow you to attached your gear. Pretty useful when the box is half empty, which is pretty often because your car seats will be all occupied before the box says "no more". I didn't notice any increase in gas consumption at normal highway speed (55/75) and no additional wind noise.
The only downside: On a SUV, pay attention to the indoor garage clearance, because this cargo box increases a lot the height of your car.
      Outstanding product
