Shooting star.

Anyone who's had the opportunity to spin the Xentis Mark2 TT Tubular Carbon Wheelset in anger knows that the signature, five-armed spoke pattern is not mere gimmickry. It's an upgrade to the Mark1 wheels' four spoke design, which makes for increased lateral stability with fewer watts lost in the wind. On top of all this, and despite their generous 65-millimeter depth, the Mark2s' claimed weight puts them just below the 1,600 grams of a typical 40 millimeter carbon clincher.

The wheels' efficiency is written in the Mark2's deep rim and five shaped spokes. While the Mark1 model is already a fast customer, the Mark2 requires 25% less power input from the engine (read: you) in order to maintain cruising speeds approaching 30mph. Adding that extra spoke also increases lateral stiffness by about 7N/mm over the Mark1, so it enjoys all the benefits of an aerodynamic wheel's wind-dodging shape without losing the brute strength and efficient power transfer of a wheelset with more traditional spokes.

Safety and handling can be equally as important as aerodynamics and speed, though. The Mark2 TTs remain stable in winds from 5-15°, keeping you in control by preventing any sudden jerks at inopportune moments. In the event that things do get out of control — say, overcooking a corner on a fast, rolling course — the full carbon brake track behaves more like machined alloy. They stop with consistent, confident force in wet or dry conditions, resist wear better than your typical carbon rim, and don't even require special pads.

The Mark2 TT Wheels are rounded off with a few thoughtful inclusions, including a built-in computer magnet that sits opposite the valve hole for balance. The valve holes also incorporate a soft lining to keep your long valve stems from rattling during the ride. Please note that Xentis recommends a maximum rider weight of 265lb (120kg).
