If you typically ride in dry locations, you need a tire that rolls fast. But fast rolling tires have a tendency to be a bit treacherous when it gets either dusty or wet. If your bike is rolling on the WTB Wolverine AM TCS 27.5-inch Tire, however, you might as well sit back and relax. The tightly spaced, ramped center knobs keep it rolling blisteringly fast when it's dry. And when grip gets harder to come by, the open side knobs, and dual-compound rubber dig in to keep you in control when you're riding at your limit.
The key to the Wolverine is its progressive tread design. At the center line of the tire, you'll find tightly spaced, ramped center knobs that minimize rolling resistance, thereby preserving speed. The side knobs are staggered and open, which allows the working edges to dig into the dirt in order to provide more cornering bite than the low-profile tread looks like it would provide. And with this being the TCS version, it gets a dual-compound tread pattern, that includes softer side knobs that bite hard, and stiffer center knobs that enhance the life and rolling speed.
WTB has a history as one of the pioneers of tubeless tires, so it shouldn't be a surprise that the TCS casing takes the best parts of the UST tire standard, namely the strong bead and reinforced sidewalls. And since this is the AM version, the sidewall gets added reinforcement in order to fight pinch flats. Meanwhile, the 60 TPI casing provides a responsive and smooth ride quality. The result is a tire that comes in around a competitive 840 grams, and with the support and durability of a heavier tire.
The WTB Wolverine AM TCS 27.5-inch Tire is available in the size 2.2-inch width and in the color Black.
