Description

Twenty-niners have reached maturity, and in doing so they've outgrown the kicks that got them rolling. As manufacturers scramble to ride the '27.5/enduro' wave, however, WTB is ensuring that the mountain wheels' big brother continues to ride on up-to-date technology with products like the Nine Line 2.0 29in TCS Tire.

Aimed squarely at the go-fast crowd, this tubeless tire is optimized for efficiency in the straight line and traction during forceful cornering. To accomplish this, WTB employs small, square-edged lugs evenly spaced along the center portion of the Nine Line. These grip hard-packed singletrack, while widely spaced transition knobs grab looser soil, mud, and roots.

WTB's supple Tubeless TCS casing contributes to this by effortlessly forming to trail imperfections, allowing those transition knobs to work most effectively. At the side of the Nine Line, Triangulated lugs resist deformation for consistent and predictable high-speed cornering.

Based on UST and ETRTO standards, TCS tires still require sealant to operate properly. The WTB Nine Line 29" TCS Tire only comes in a race-worthy 2.0in width.

Great tread but needs a tougher casing

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Bought these for some mixed gravel grinding and xc riding on the fully rigid 29er. I love the tread pattern. Very smooth rolling and yet great traction all around. Clears mud quite nicely too compared to many fast rolling treads. Problem is the casing is rather weak. First ride, on gravel roads, I pinch flatted twice (I haven't pinch flatted in about a decade). Tires were run at about 55 psi and I only weigh 160. I also got a sidewall cut on one tire, a separate incident from the pinch flat. Tires are narrower than a 2.0 size. If they'd make these things more robust and keep the treat pattern they'd be super winners. The pinch flats and cut occurred on gravel roads. Not even bashing around on the singletrack. Granted, they were rocks roads but still. Haven't had any similar incidents with the many other tires I've used.
Had to put a boot in the tire with a sidewall cut. Still using them but carry lots of repair materials and a few tubes to get me home. Still love the tread but always have flatting/puncturing in the back of my mind.

Damn, that's some pretty high PSI. I run mine high 20's but then I'm running 'em tubeless and I weigh 140.

I imagine the sidewalls are a bit thin as these tires are probably more meant for XC racing.

Higher PSI = faster pace on gravel- fire roads. It's more like road riding than X/C riding where traction from low PSI really isn't needed
