Izoard XP/SRAM Rival Complete Bike $2,199.00
Item # WLY0021
As cycling fanatics, it's easy for us to justify the gaudy sums we spend on our favorite pastime. Our non-cycling friends, however, think that we're nuts. We've heard ribbing that cycling is similar to boating, as both sports demand endless amounts of money for upgrades, improvements, and getting things just the way we want them on our toys. It's hard to counter the boat analogy -- unless, of course, we're talking about the Wilier Izoard XP/SRAM Complete Bike. This Italian stunner offers a unique combination of sleek beauty, nimble performance, and yes, rock-solid value that our thrifty friends would applaud.
Like the Wilier Cento1, the Izoard XP is built with full carbon monocoque construction. It's made exclusively from Toray carbon; in this case, T-700SC (medium modulus, or stiffness) and M30J (high modulus) fibers make up the bulk of the laminate. In the typical calculus of carbon fiber, the stiffness and tensile strength of the highest grades (such as the 46 Ton carbon in the Cento1) allows frame manufacturers to use less material to achieve requisite rigidity and strength. By combining T-700SC and M30J in the Izoard XP, Wilier is sacrificing nothing in terms of its ride quality and durability, but is simply using more material to achieve it, which adds a few grams. The upside is that the lower-modulus carbon fiber is also significantly less expensive. Considering the beauty and the raceworthiness of the Izoard, the value is easy to see.
The Izoard XP geometry features slightly longer chainstays than its big brother, the Zero, giving the Izoard XP an extremely smooth ride. Engineers also gave the fork a more pronounced curve to improve stability of over rough tarmac. Responsiveness might seem at odds with the Izoard XP’s plush ride, but handling is surprisingly quick and nimble; it doesn’t corner like your grandparents' sedan.
When creating a build kit for the Izoard XP, we went with a SRAM Rival/ Force mix for a couple of reasons. The first consideration was performance, and SRAM’s groups fit the bill nicely. In fact, in a blind test, we’d be hard-pressed to tell the difference in shift performance between the higher-end Red and Force. The second reason we chose the Rival/ Force mix for the Iozard XP was affordability. We knew that if we outfitted the Izoard XP with a full Force group, the price tag would go up as well. We decided instead to upgrade the rear derailleur, knocking down a few grams without losing sight of affordability. The rest of the group (front derailleur, shifters, and brakes) is Rival. While Red may shave a few grams over its siblings Force and Rival, it also rings in at nearly twice the cost. We didn’t believe the added cost of of upgrading the whole group to Red or Force would justify the weight savings, especially since shifting performance is still top-notch.
The Izoard XP’s rolling stock consists of the 21mm-deep Mavic Aksium wheelset. The Aksiums come with black spokes, Mavic hubs, and a lightweight alloy rim. There are 20-radial-laced spokes in front, and 20 spokes in back laced in a two-cross (drive side) pattern. Each wheel is wrapped in grippy Aksion tires in a 23mm width.
We dialed in the cockpit of the Wilier Iozard XP with Zipp Service Course parts. The aluminum bars come wrapped in Arundel cork tape for confident grip. The Selle Italia SL Kit Carbonio saddle keeps weight low without sacrificing comfort during a three-hour loop.
The Wilier Iozard XP/SRAM Rival bike is available in Red in sizes from X-Small to XX-Large.

Hello, I am trying to confirm specs on the Wilier Izoard XP build. The video says Easton seatpost, stem, and handlebar, but the spec sheet has Zipp. And the wheelset in the video is Reynolds Shadow, but the spec sheet say Reynolds Solitude. Can you please verify? Thank you.
I have to second everything kevp703226 said. I shopped for a few months before making the decision to purchase this Izoard. I rode the big 3, a Masi, and a few others. I shopped the 2012 closeout deals, but the whole time I had my eye on this bike. There is something about a Wilier that is sexier and more badass than the cervelo, s-works, giants, or any other common ride you will pass.
To second the comments on service from CC, A+ ladies and gentlemen. I corresponded with the representative for about a week from initial interest, purchase, and shipping info. The bike came packed so well, safe, and clean. It was ready to ride within an hour, and tuned perfectly.
I HIGHLY recommend this bike and purchasing from Competitive Cyclist.
I've been in love with Wiliers for some time ever since seeing an ad in Bicycling magazine. They're all styled like sexy Italian sports cars. After riding an Izoard XP and loving it I realized that I could get in on the ground floor of Wiliers, so to speak, with this entry model. The thing is, the geometry fits my needs to a tee. I'm not racing it but want to go fast with the A group of my bike club. And I like longer rides. This is perfect for that. What can I say about the Competitive Cyclist process, but A+. They shipped it quickly and it was impeccably tuned right out of the box. They've mastered the packing process.
The componentry is outstanding. I'm a huge fan of SRAM's Rival components. Shifting is fantastic and the brakes will throw your butt off the seat if you lock it down. The wheels and tires could be a little better and the seat is uncomfortable, but I think that's where they were able to keep the price down. This bike could be $300 more and I'd still buy it. A truly amazing deal when you consider free shipping and no tax.
I could not be happier with my product and the purchasing experience with CC. These guys are legit.
