Description

Wilier puts it, "The spirit of the Gran Turismo is embodied in the soul of the GTS." What the Italian frame manufacturer really means is that its new GTS was developed for riders who want that lively race feel in their road machines, but without the aggressive race fit. To achieve this, Wilier expertly applied the Gran Turismo's carbon fiber composite to a platform that features a slightly slackened geometry throughout. The result is a series of new sizes that deliver Wilier's signature race-tuned handling, while fitting better than ever.

What sets The GTS apart aesthetically is its Razor Edge Design in front and the Smooth Rear design in back. In contrast to the more rounded tube shapes of the Cento1 and Izoard, Wilier designers took full advantage of the freedom afforded by its monocoque molding process to give the GTS lines that sing praise to Italian style while maintaining a Cento1 level of handling precision. To this end, the top and down tubes bear the most aggressive shaping to create a stable, confidence-inspiring ride. The head tube junction received a great portion of the attention, and the top and down tubes converge here in a unified mass of carbon fiber for unparalleled torsional stiffness. Look behind the seat tube and you'll notice skinny seatstays. These give the bike more vertical compliance in back when riding over rough roads — they're not only skinny, but shaped to maximize comfort. The upper end is almost triangular and morphs over the length of the stays to be nearly flat by the dropouts.

Wilier uses a full monocoque process for the fork as well. This way, it ensures that fibers run continuously from the fork ends to the top of the steerer, which, when combined with the massive front end, result in incredible lateral stiffness and impressive overall strength. They also manage to fit in some vertical compliance by designing the rake to start at the crown and taper to the trailing edge.

Hidden from view underneath its detailed paint, the GTS relies on carbon fiber sourced from two of Wilier's most trusted suppliers: Toray and Mitsubishi. The performance goals for the frame are met with a careful layup schedule consisting of Toray's T-700SC and Mitsubishi's MR 60H and HS40 unidirectional fibers. This blend of high and medium modulus fibers is what gives their engineers the ability to fine tune the ride for maximum feel and comfort, and at the same time, make this bike more affordable than their top-of-the-range Cento1 series.

The GTS also benefits from asymmetrical chainstays in the rear end. Since the drivetrain applies different forces to the left and right sides of the frame, the shape and layup of the tubes in the rear triangle have been optimized to neutralize the torsional effect from pedaling, and to maximize comfort at the same time.

For the build of the GTS, Wilier spec'd the bike with Shimano's Ultegra 6800 11-speeed drivetrain, complete with an FSA MegaExo bottom bracket and Gossamer crankset. The cockpit received an FSA RD-320S handlebar and its OS-190 LX stem, with an FSA SL-282 post supporting Selle Italia's X1 Custom Wilier saddle. In the wheel department, Wilier wrapped Shimano's reliable RS21 hoops with Vittoria Zaffiro clincher tires.

Excellent bike and a great value!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I purchased this bike last fall and have no regrets! This is an upgrade from my old road bike. The ride is much smoother and the Ultegra components are great. I ride on some rough roads at times and the carbon frame has helped ease the road vibration. I do not experience as much fatigue riding further distances. I did upgrade the wheels, handlebars and saddle, which have made the ride even better for me personally.

Hi!

I would like to know the stem size for the size M.
Besides that, what size do you recommend for me?

Actual Inseam: 80 Cm
Trunk: 68 Cm
Forearm: 30 Cm
Arm: 65 Cm
Thigh: 62 Cm
Lower Leg: 55 Cm
Sternal Notch: 148 Cm
Total Height: 179 Cm

Seems like the M would be a good fit. Do you agree?

Thanks

Daniel,

You would be a good fit for the Large frame and a 100mm stem. If you have questions about bike sizing feel free to reach out to me.

Best wishes,

Joe

Masterpiece!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I'm not a racer or ultra-competitive rider, however, I do appreciate a bike that is light, fast, and looks good. This was my first carbon frame and needless to say I’m quite happy with the upgrade. I've been riding this bike for nearly 6 months now and am very happy with the noticeable changes in my performance when switching from my aluminum frame to this carbon frame. The most noticeable difference is on acceleration and climbs. This bike makes these events seem effortless and has really increased my enjoyment of cycling. I would highly recommend this bike to anyone looking to make the switch from aluminum to carbon and for anyone looking for a performance bike at a great price point.

Masterpiece!

Great Bike and Great Customer Service

I based my decision to buy this bike on the good review posted. I received my bike on time, assembled it and the bike looks great! Good customer service. Shae, thank you very much and also to the rest BC personnel who helped me. Thank you for going the extra mile for me. This Saturday will my first long distance ride with this bike.

The numbers for BB Drop seem off. 17.8 cm? Can we get corrected numbers?

Hi, I'm an odd fit - 6'1", 29 inseam. Short legs with long torso, would the large be a good fit?

FLDAVES, i am 6´1" with 32 inseam and ride the large. Great fit and ride. The top of my saddle is at 76.3 cm from the BB center.

I would be concerned that the large would not have a long enough top tube; with a long torso, at 6'1", I would air more to the XL.

Please feel free to contact me directly to discuss sizing!

    Great bike for the $$$$

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Bought this bike to upgrade my old one. Do a lot of climbing in Colorado and this bike flys up the hills. The only thing I would change is a carbon seat post to dampen the road a little more. Put on the ultegra brakes for better stopping power since I am doing a lot of climbing. A fantastic bike for the price. Very fast and light.

    Great bike for the $$$$

    Perfect

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

After 10 years with my old Ciocc .. it was time to upgrade and thanks to a generous family member I was able to order from CC. Great price ! Great bike.. fits like a glove now. SOLID SOLID bike. Going from Campi gear .. i was iffy.. but love how solid the Shimano Ultegra group set is.. LOVE LOVE it. Highly recommended and it's a beauty .

    Very Pleased!!

This was the first time I ordered a bike online and the first time I ordered through Competitive Cyclist. I was a little concerned on how abused the bike was going to get while being shipped cross country by UPS, but honestly my fears were unfounded. The box came fairly unscathed, minus a gash in the one side. When I opened the box to check the bike I was extremely pleased as to how well this bike was packed! I was like a kid on Christmas unpacking my new bike. The Wilier is a beauty! Now, I can't say much for the ride at this point since I am still dealing with 3ft of snow on the ground, but I am hoping for an early spring so I can put this bike through its' paces. As far as ordering another bike from Competitive Cyclist again, I would without hesitation.
Once the snow clears the roads and I am able to ride this beauty I will update the review. Thanks for listening.

Can you add Di2 to this bike?

Yes, you should be able to. The E-Tube cable running up to the front derailleur would need to be relatively long and probably zip-tied once around the seat tube.

great value on an Italian classic!

This is one of the best all-around performing bikes we offer. A 1,050-gram monocoque frame with asymmetric chainstays aids in power transfer, while a semi-integrated seat mast and formed, angular tube profiles provide lateral stiffness. The bike's ProTour geometry tilts the GTS more toward the racy end of the performance/comfort spectrum, and with a carbon fork the bike is perfectly capable of serving up equal heaping of speed and distance for riders willing to give as much as they get.The bike is super comfortable for long rides and excels in areas where the roads are rough and coarse. I just recently sent one to my Sister in Kauai and she was in awe of the buttery smoothness and performance on the sketchy roads in Hawaii.if you have the means i highly recommend picking one up.

These come with compact cranks and 11/25 cassettes but we can swap it if need be.

Would this be a good all around bike ( road and triathlon)? I am planning on racing for an Ironman distance next year but not sure if I will be doing more after that. I have a budget for only 1 bike, unfortunately.

Yes, it would be a great bike to do everything! It will be super comfortable for the long distance training you are doing, but will still perform as a race bike should. You could also add clip on aero bars if you wanted. Please feel free to contact me directly with any questions you may have.

I'm 5'6", with a 30" inseam, which would fit better, small or medium?

i would put you in a small but it really depends. Feel free to call me direct and I will get a few more details from you to determine the correct size.

        Excelelnt bike and customer service

It's my first time buying a bike online and I could not get a hold of one local to check out let alone ride it. I based my decision on reviews online and a great help from Shae - customer service/advisor. Shae was kind and patient enough to answer all my questions even the details of the bike as far as sizing goes knowing different brands have different sizes and geometry. That was the scary part getting the bike that does not fit and having to return and exchange. As for the bike itself, the fit and finish of this bike is amazing and it handles great and loves to climb as what it claims to be. I am very happy with my purchase and will buy at again from Competitive Cyclist. Thanks again Shae!

Thanks Alvin, I'm happy I was able to help out. :)

Hi, I'm a 5'3" male and my inseam is 28". Would size S fit me?

yes, it would fit but we would need to swap the stem out for a little shorter one. Feel free to contact me direct at 801-736-6396 x 4074 or wbranham@backcountry.com.
