Description

Fast and smooth.

Wilier puts it, "The spirit of the Gran Turismo is embodied in the soul of the GTS." What the Italian frame manufacturer really means is that its new GTS was developed for riders who want that lively race feel in their road machines, but without the aggressive race fit. To achieve this, Wilier expertly applied the Gran Turismo's carbon fiber composite to a platform that features a slightly slackened geometry throughout. The result is a series of new sizes that deliver Wilier's signature race-tuned handling, while fitting better than ever.

What sets The GTS apart aesthetically is its Razor Edge Design in front and the Smooth Rear design in back. In contrast to the more rounded tube shapes of the Cento1 and Izoard, Wilier designers took full advantage of the freedom afforded by its monocoque molding process to give the GTS lines that sing praise to Italian style while maintaining a Cento1 level of handling precision. To this end, the top and down tubes bear the most aggressive shaping to create a stable, confidence-inspiring ride. The head tube junction received a great portion of the attention, and the top and down tubes converge here in a unified mass of carbon fiber for unparalleled torsional stiffness. Look behind the seat tube and you'll notice skinny seatstays. These give the bike more vertical compliance in back when riding over rough roads — they're not only skinny, but shaped to maximize comfort. The upper end is almost triangular and morphs over the length of the stays to be nearly flat by the dropouts.

Wilier uses a full monocoque process for the fork as well. This way, it ensures that fibers run continuously from the fork ends to the top of the steerer, which, when combined with the massive front end, result in incredible lateral stiffness and impressive overall strength. They also manage to fit in some vertical compliance by designing the rake to start at the crown and taper to the trailing edge.

Hidden from view underneath its detailed paint, the GTS relies on carbon fiber sourced from two of Wilier's most trusted suppliers: Toray and Mitsubishi. The performance goals for the frame are met with a careful layup schedule consisting of Toray's T-700SC and Mitsubishi's MR 60H and HS40 unidirectional fibers. This blend of high and medium modulus fibers is what gives their engineers the ability to fine tune the ride for maximum feel and comfort, and at the same time, make this bike more affordable than their top-of-the-range Cento1 series.

The GTS also benefits from asymmetrical chainstays in the rear end. Since the drivetrain applies different forces to the left and right sides of the frame, the shape and layup of the tubes in the rear triangle have been optimized to neutralize the torsional effect from pedaling, and to maximize comfort at the same time.

For the build of the GTS, Wilier spec'd the bike with Shimano's Ultegra 6800 11-speeed drivetrain, complete with an FSA MegaExo bottom bracket and Gossamer crankset. The cockpit received an FSA RD-320S handlebar and its OS-190 LX stem, with an FSA SL-282 post supporting Selle Italia's X1 Custom Wilier saddle. In the wheel department, Wilier wrapped Shimano's reliable RS21 hoops with Vittoria Zaffiro clincher tires.

The Wilier GTS/Shimano Ultegra 11 Complete Road Bike - 2014 is available in six sizes from X-Small to XX-Large and in the color Black/red.

i'm 5'6" 29 inch inseam. would a small fit me?

Responded on

Angel,

The Small should fit you very well, the standover on that back will work and it should fit you comfortably.

If you have any other questions please feel free to contact me at ececala@backcountry.com

Thanks,

Can the Wilier GTS accommodate a wide-rim (25mm) wheelset like the HED Ardennes + ? Also, what is the standover height for the bike in size small? Thanks!

Responded on

The 25mm will be pushing it to the limit especially with a bigger tire you are going to be running into rubbing issues that will ultimately not work out for you in the long run.

To answer the Standover question you are looking at roughly 70cm.

I hope this answers your questions and if you still have questions please feel free to contact me at ececala@backcountry.com.

Thnaks,
Enrico

competitive cyclist cancelled my order

I ordered this bike on the 7th of June, and after waiting 6 weeks for the bike, competitive cyclist decided to cancel my order without prior notice. You might need some explanation on why was the order cancelled, but none was given.

Responded on

I would be glad to look into that for you. Im sure there is a good explaination for this happening as we do not randomly cancel orders for people.
Please give me a call at 801-736-6396 x 4074

amazing value

This is one of the best all-around performing bikes we offer. A 1,050-gram monocoque frame with asymmetric chainstays aids in power transfer, while a semi-integrated seat mast and formed, angular tube profiles provide lateral stiffness. The bike's ProTour geometry tilts the GTS more toward the racy end of the performance/comfort spectrum, and with a carbon fork the bike is perfectly capable of serving up equal heapings of speed and distance for riders willing to give as much as they get.The bike is super comfortable for long rides and excels in areas where the roads are rough and coarse. I just recently sent one to my Sister in Kauai and she was in awe of the buttery smoothness and performance on the sketchy roads in Hawaii.if you have the means i highly recommend picking one up.

Like Butta!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

For the price, you can't get much better than the Wilier GTS.

First Ride: I love the GORGEOUS build, light but sturdy frame design, insanely smooth ride, smooth Ultegra components and the Shimano RS21 wheelset. After not being on a bike for a couple years, I expected to be worn out quickly but the Wilier GTS made the first 20 miles a breeze even in a strong head-wind. I switched out the seat post with a zero offset carbon post but other than that, I will be keeping the bike just the way it is for quite some time.
