A portable pit crew.

Tubular tires are awesome, until you get a flat and feel like leaving your wheels on the side of the road and carrying your bike home on your back. Vittoria's Pit-Stop Road Racing and Tire Repair Kit will save your punctured bacon, though, by plugging any holes with fast-acting latex foam that will seal your tubes or tires for miles and miles. You can even use it preemptively to prevent flats, if you want. The canister works with both Presta and Schrader valves, and the foam is lighter than traditional liquid sealant, so it won't slow you down when you throw it in seat bag or strap it to a seat tube.

  • Latex foam
  • Works with Presta and Schrader valves
  • Compatible with tubular and clincher tires

Works well, but finicky

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I'm an old-school guy. Steel. Lugs. Tubies. I never go for a ride without a spare tub toe-strapped under my saddle. I also always carry a can of Pit-Stop in a jersey pocket, because sealing the tire that's already glued to the rim is much preferred to having to peel the flat and mounting the spare, especially if the tires are well-glued (and nearly impossible to strip on the side of the road).

Pit-Stop does the job well for the most part; you do have to make sure that the can and valve-stem are both positioned properly before activating, otherwise the foam tends to spray everywhere but inside the tire.

But once you get your technique down, Pit-Stop is a ride saver.

I'm not clear on the instruction for using this product. The pictures on the side of the product don't have complete information.

why do you spin the tire after using the product?
How long does it have to set before riding or pumping up the tire further?

You spin the tires to help distribute the latex evenly throughout the tire; it doesn't really need any time to set-up; generally once the foam is exposed to air, it starts to set-up.

Pump up your tires right away, give the wheel another spin. Remount the wheel, and ride away.

Small

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Haven't had to use this yet but I was surprised at the overall size of the bottle. No mount... nothing electrical tape can't fix for mounting to the seat tube. Hope I never have to use it but certainly isn't a bother to carry around.

It works !!

Just bought this as a " emergency worth a try " item . Darned if last night on our first after work bike ride of the season with some friends, my wife runs over a thorn not 10 minutes into a 2+ hour ride. Right thru her Conti Gatorskin clincher tire and tube. I thought what the heck - lets at least try this stuff. It worked - she was able to continue and do the entire ride. Pumped up her tire last night to 76 psi and just checked it this morning - still holding air. I'm going to get a few of these to always have one on hand for long rides !

Riding Tubies? Here, Take This!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

No other way to put it other than this is absolutely required for your Tubular Tires for every ride.

When you don't have the luxury of a team or wheel car behind you, this is absolutely necessary for getting home if your Tubular tires blow.

Easy to use, seals up even the gnarlier cuts and gashes that can happen, and with a shot of co2 or a few hits with your hand pump you'll be able to keep going. Nobody likes to make the desperation call for a pickup, take this and you'll be fine.

Tubular Must Have

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This works awesome for people who train daily on tubulars. If you do get a flat this will seal it up, a little CO2 and you'll be able to get back home, no problem. The pit stop canister doesn't require much pressure at all. If you do push it against the valve too hard it can deform enough to spray out the sides and cause a mess. Nice and easy, just the way it should be.

Best for tubulars

This is the best insurance for flats. Seals up small punctures and inflates the tire as well. i just pack 2 of these and a co2 on my rides, instead of packing a pre stretched and pre glued tubular with me. Takes up a lot less room and isnt as messy as dealing with tubulars.

Does the Vittoria Pit-Stop tube and tire...

Does the Vittoria Pit-Stop tube and tire repair kit work on clinchers with tubes in them. Thanks

    Quick fix for a flat

I carry this with me when out on the trails. Quick fix to a flat and keeps you rolling. I've tried prefilling but doesnt always prevent flats, sure fixes them.
