The Mod movement never really died, and somewhere along the way it's become integrated with the two-wheeled movement. And why not? Functionality and fashion rolled into one. What's not to love? Upright Cyclist has parlayed the much-loved 1960s US Army M51 jacket into the Brighton Parka, making it an ideal outer layer for urban cycling adventures.
The Brighton was designed for foul weather. It features a polyester shell with a waterproof and breathable backing. All of the seams have been taped to provide further protection from rain. The polyester fabric used has a heavy texture that has the look and feel of the Army's olive drab. The Brighton was further weather-proofed with the addition of rubber zippers, adjustable hook-and-loop cuffs, and a two-way hood to keep the wind and elements out. For ventilation while you are riding, underarm zippers have been added, as well as a pass through vent on the upper back yoke.
While the original M51 featured a bulkier cut, the Brighton was given a slimmer profile ideal for bike riding. The back of the jacket has a convertible fishtail design to keep wheel spray at bay, and the four front pouch pockets are felt-lined for warmth. Additionally, a large "quail" pocket, that is accessible from the side seam, keeps your hands gear-free. What's the best part about the Brighton? It looks as good on the bike as off.
