Compete at your best.

If you've been competing in triathlons for a while, you've surely been disappointed by your apparel a few times, and it's easy to see why. On paper, one suit that operates seamlessly across all three disciplines seems logical, but in actuality, each discipline raises a new set of complex variables. As a result, most manufacturers try, and most fail. However, with TYR's new Competitor Front Zipper Tri Suit, it placed a specialized focus on creating one suit that performs perfectly across the board. More impressively, though, success in each stage isn't hinged on compromise. Instead, the Competitor functions like three individual pieces in one anatomic design.

For the bulk of the Competitor Tri Suit's construction, TYR used a blend of polyester and spandex. Why these two fibers? Well, polyester is easily the most versatile fiber in sports apparel. Case in point is the venerable Lycra material. It provides a supportive, yet non-constrictive, structure, while remaining soft-to-the-touch. Additionally, with the elasticity of the added spandex content, the resulting material is granted a four-way stretch. So, your freedom of movement is guaranteed, regardless of the discipline at hand. You'll also find that, when combined, this material is quite efficient at managing moisture. So, whether it be water or perspiration, moisture moved away from the skin and transported to the quick-drying surface of the fabric. As a result, you remain dry and comfortable over the two land legs of your competition. And in addition to this effective fiber combination, TYR also coated the surface with Teflon. Essentially, this aids in overall durability, but just as importantly, it bolsters the suit's aero- and hydrodynamics.

In terms of fit, TYR designed the Competitor Tri Suit for competitors, meaning that it's ready for endurance racing. It features a comfort beaded silicone leg hem, knee length lowers, and inset armholes that allow a non-pinching locomotion of the arms during the run and swim. And as a result of these features, cumulatively, the suit provides more surface area coverage, which results in an increase in both compressive support and resistance to wetsuit chafing.

Furthering this level of comfort, TYR included its new Competitor AMP chamois. This insert features a minimalist construction as to provide enough support for the bike leg without inhibiting comfort in either the swim or run. And because of the swim, TYR also designed the Competitor to be water-resistant and quick-drying so you won't be racing soggy after T1.

For storage of your race nutrition, TYR has also included a zippered rear pocket. And for an easy entry and exit of the suit, it also features a 10-inch locking front zipper.

The TYR Competitor Front Zipper Tri Suit is available in five sizes from X-Small to X-Large and in the colors Black/red, Black/blue, and Black/yellow.

NOTE:  To cater to different needs and budgets, TYR engineers two triathlon lines. Competitor garments offer a compressive fit, while carbon garments offer a super compressive fit for a second-skin feel. You should select your same, standards size for both carbon and competitor garments but expect slightly different fits.
How to Measure:
For best results take measurements over your underwear, keeping the tape a bit loose.
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
Bend to the side and measure around the place where your waist bends, keeping the tape a bit loose.
Stand with feet together and measure around the fullest part of the hip.
With someone's help, run a tape measure full circle from your shoulder at the neck, over the fullest part of your chest, down through the center of your crotch and back up to the starting point.

Really disappointed

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: Large

My Castelli Free ITU suit called it quits and I exchanged it for this product before my next race. I tried it on and while the fit seemed okay there was a lot of extra fabric around the stomach. The fabric itself felt cheap and left my skin feel itchy. It has two pockets, very tiny, that can hold 1 Gu each. So I really don't recommend the suit to anyone looking to do a 70.3 or longer.

I'm returning it. It just doesn't seem worth the $110. I'd rather spend a little more with better fabric/more comfortable/better pockets.
