Stem

We find it easy to like CNC-machined stems. Done right they're light, strong, and good-looking. We like when Twenty6 does it, like the F1.2 and F1.5 stems. These guys ride, invent, modify, improve, sell, improve some more, all in Montana. They started with the F1.2 for 1-1/8" steerers, and also offer the a 1.5" steerer, the F1.5.

While we like the whole package, what is unique here is the two-bolt wedge steerer tube clamp. Rather than pinching the steerer with one or two bolts at the back, the wedge gently, gradually, and firmly pushes a wedge out from the stem body into the steerer. The clamping mechanism works separate from the stem itself, so there is no working or weakening of the stem.

The sculpted shape is maximally minimal. That is, all the 6061-T6 aluminum you need in places it is needed, and none where it isn't. Rather than go for illusory savings of aluminum bolts, Twenty6 opted for stainless steel. Two stainless M5 Allen-head bolts turn the wedge and four stainless M5 Allen-head bolts secure the face plate to the 31.8mm handlebar clamp.

The stem comes in one length 50mm reach with zero rise in two steerer options 1-1/8" (F1.2) or 1-1/5" (F1.5). The stack height for the steerer tube is 45mm. Colors available are: Black, Blue, Brown, Green, Orange, Pink, Red, and Yellow. 168g.
