Tracing its history back to being the unbranded crankset behind a multitude of podiums earned by the members of SRAM's pro team, Descendant cranksets have enjoyed an illustrious history. Now known by name by the public for its workhorse capabilities and budget-friendly price, the Descendant 11-Speed BB30 Direct Mount Boost Crankset was treated to an update for 2017. If you're looking for a versatile, bombproof crankset that won't blow your travel budget for the summer, you won't find much with a better fit than the Descendant.
A 7000-series aluminum construction is responsible for much of the Descendant's behavior, allowing it to occupy a reasonable price point and equipping it with the combination of stiffness and lightness that adapts it so well to all-around trail and all-mountain riding. While you're launching off a drop bigger than you expected or dicing through a rocky, hand-numbing line, you can ride with assurance that the Descendant won't fall apart. The direct mount ring also simplifies the design, allowing the streamlined new aesthetics to stand out and trimming bulk over bolted models. For added peace of mind, the Descendant accommodates a bash guard to add protection for the chainring, and includes SRAM's impressive X-SYNC chainring for precise chain retention, its squared-off teeth holding onto chains admirably through muddy, wet conditions and dry days alike.
