Take the high road.

The Troy Lee Design's Skyline Women's Shorts are designed for women who ride. While this may not be much of a distinction on first read, we've found that the majority of women's shorts out there aren't up to the paces that badass ladies tend to put them through. The Skyline, on the other hand, is made from a stretchy and breathable blend of polyester and spandex that allows you to move, pedal, and hike (but hopefully not), while remaining rugged enough to handle tree snags, spills, and week-long riding trips without wearing out.

The Skyline also offers a stretchy, mesh back panel for increased mobility and mesh vents at the back of the legs to help you stay cool when the trail gets hot and dusty. Hook-and-loop tabs at the waist make for easy adjustment, and zippered pockets at the front and thigh that provide secure spots for snacks, tools, and even a phone so you can text your lazy friends mid-ride and tell them just what they're missing.

  • Four-way stretch polyester/spandex blend
  • Zippered front and side pockets
  • Mesh leg ventilation
  • Hook-and-loop elastic waist adjustment

How to Measure:

YUP - Bought these in every color!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

These shorts stretch and flex in all the right places, dare I say these are the "yoga pants" of Mountain Biking shorts for women. They fit with almost every chamois I own (Castelli, Pearl Izumi, etc) and they have one perfectly located cell phone pocket on the thigh. I've crashed tons of times and they haven't gotten a puncture. They DO stain on grass, even after scrubbing it won't come out - but I don't care about getting dirty. :) I have wide-ish hips and they are so comfy.

Major Difference Between 2015 and 2016

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Large '15 & '16 (runs small)

In the 2015 model, without the side cinch straps, a large is falling off of me. I have to stop multiple times per ride and hike up my shorts and then cinch my thick Evoc velcro waist strap down on the shorts to try and hold them up. (I recently lost 5 pounds. I think the shorts have stretched in addition to me loosing a little weight.) I have griped all along that the women's Troy Lee short did not have the waist cinches like on the men's models, so I was happy to see that the 2016 models indeed have the cinches.

Per reviews that the 2016 model was running smaller, I ordered large again, thinking sticking with the same size, and knowing that they are running smaller for 2016 might be the ticket.

I truly feel that there is a 1.5 size difference between the 2015 large and the 2016 large.

Really Troy Lee? They were fine, you just needed to keep them the same with the exception of adding the velcro cinches to the waist!

I am 5'7" 145 pounds, waist 29" hips 38.5" I generally wear a size US 10.

Great fitting shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Medium

I just rode with my new TLD shorts. They are so whisper quiet, light, and silky, I barely noticed them while pedaling. The adjustable waist tabs dial in the fit, and a higher waist offers great back coverage when riding. They made my ride that much more fun; having good gear will do that.

I ordered the Evil print (which is more deep pink/magenta/brownish purple in person than bright red/black as pictured on the website) and a solid orange pair. I felt the lighter orange was slightly see through (I had to look close to see it) compared to the print; I wore bright patterned liner shorts underneath so that probably accounts for the faint color ghosting through the TDL fabric. I think a darker short , like the solid black, wouldn't do that. Or you could wear lighter colored and/or solid liners underneath to avoid it.

Re sizing: I prefer a trim fit, rather than baggy style. After speaking to a rep I ordered a medium, even though typically I wear small, size 4/27 in jeans, body measurements 25" waist, 36" hips. The medium fits really well, hugs my waist and hips so no slipping there, and plenty of room for my thighs, which are the largest muscles I have. Lots of stretch in the fabric so it doesn't bind. Again, I barely noticed them on.

I like them so much I'm going to exchange the solid orange for another pattern. I suggest ordering one size up, though.

Skin tight!

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Large

The thighs on these shorts are tight. I was hoping for a nice baggy fit but was sorely disappointed. The features on these shorts are great. Nice venting, stretchy, functional pockets, etc. but based on the description, I was expecting a more relaxed fit. They were very tight on my thighs, almost like spandex. I even sized up because I wanted them to be baggy. I guess they'd be great if you had no leg muscles which usually isn't the case with women who ride mountain bikes...

What did you end up buying? I like the stretch and thinness of these but ya, I don't have poly pocket thighs.
