Raucous.

With the same ruggedness as Troy Lee Designs' impact protection gear, the Ruckus Men's Shorts are perfect for enduro and trail riders who require shorts raucous enough to take a beating without slowing them down. The shell is made from lightweight, two-way stretch polyester and has a large stretch panel at the back to provide excellent movement and breathability. The Ruckus' waist is adjustable via two hook-and-loop tabs, so it sits comfortably at your hips instead of riding up under your nips.

The Ruckus features thigh vents that open with hidden inseam zippers to keep you cool and well-ventilated on hot days. It's also loaded up with pedal-friendly pockets at the front, side, and back, so you can ride hard without your essentials bouncing out or stabbing you in the leg. Best of all, the Ruckus ships with a breathable, moisture-wicking, padded liner, so your undercarriage doesn't take a beating when the trails hammer back.

  • Premium trail shorts for singletrack rides and park antics
  • 2-way stretch moves freely with your body
  • Removable chamois eliminates chafing
  • Sits below knee to cover knee pads
  • Stealthy, streamlined appearance

Great Shorts

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These are the best riding shorts I have ever owned. The material is super lightweight and vents well while also being super durable. The pockets are also well thought out and work great while pedaling. Other nice features are the velcro waist adjustment and the vents on the inside of the legs.

My new Go-To

  • Fit: True to size

The TLD Ruckus shorts are great for trail / gravity riding alike. Stretchy and breathable but not too thin in case you hit the deck. They're long enough to use with knee guards but they won't hinder uphill pedaling. Dialing the fit is super easy with the velcro tabs on the sides. A removable liner w/ chamois is included.

Bang for your Buck

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

After a few rides on these shorts I'm sold. They have all the features needed for an avid trail rider and come at an affordable price.

These shorts include a chamois liner, something worth mentioning given other shorts in this price range often don't include a pair. The sizing of liner and short is spot on, and the shorts include a velcro cinch system to dial your fit. The shorts fit comfortably when pedaling and stay snug during descents. They look great too, not too long or too short.

There are 3 zippered pockets and one non-zippered. I was initially skeptical of the non-zippered pocket but have grown to like it; sometimes it's nice to grab something while riding without having to mess with a zipper. Not for everyone, but a thoughtful feature. The rear zippered pocket is really tiny, I haven't used it yet and i'm not sure what you'd put in there.

The short material is breathable. Haven't taken any diggers yet but it feels more durable than other pairs I've owned. There are zippered thigh vents you can open up, and although I haven't needed them yet I appreciate the low-profile stitching TLD used to ensure no chaffing or impact on dexterity.

Overall a well thought-out short that I'm looking forward to using all season.

Bring on the Ruckus

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 32

I'm 5'11" and 175lbs - usually wear a 32 in jeans. Usually trail riding with Fox Launch Pro kneepads so I wanted something that would fit over that and breath well. I just picked up my second pair of Ruckus shorts now.

Pros:
- Big fan of the material. Breaths well, but seems to have held up well and hasn't be snagged by bramble or branches too badly.
- I like the pocket layout. I was initially thrown off by the upper pocket situation of one zipped and one open, but actually a big fan of it. Usually will throw my phone in the zipped. For shorter rides, I love being able to ride without a pack. The back zippered one is the perfect size for throwing a bar or could fit a multi tool in, but won't fit much else.
- Honestly haven't used it yet, but for those really hot days, it does have vents along the thighs, if theres anything to note after using them, I'll report back.
-They come with chamois. If you're paying $135 for shorts, I feel like that should be standard, but it isn't always. Some folk don't like the removable liners that will come with MTB shorts and will wear other brand of chamois, I personally think that the Troy Lee Design's are decent and are relatively comfortable.
-These are long enough to cover the top of knee pads and not show thigh when riding, but not so long that you look like a dweeb going to get a post ride beer somewhere.

Cons:
-My sole dislike is I hate the zipper with button that covers it. It doesn't like to be buttoned, but stays on fine once buttoned.

Overview:
-I'm almost hesitate to buy any other MTB bike shorts than TLD (the Ruckus in particular). Not that other companies aren't making good shorts, but I just love the Ruckus and think its sets a pretty high bar for the rest of trail / all mountain shorts.
