When smashing down a steep, technical section on the knife-edge of control, the least important thing is a piece of gear's usefulness away from the bike. In fact, the four-way stretch panel that gives Troy Lee Designs' Moto Shorts excellent maneuverability forms an "X" at the crotch region.

Not exactly ideal for a trip to the beach, the shorts are for riders who take the mountain bike to outer limits — which is why super-durable, 600-denier polyester was chosen for the Moto's body. When combined with an armored base layer, the Moto Shorts become a vital piece of protection.

Because the tough 600D poly favors robustness over smoothness, a mesh liner separates any exposed skin from the outer layer. Additionally, the front four-way stretch panel, mentioned before, works with another at the rear yoke to give the Moto Shorts effortless coverage — from the downhill position to mid-flight. But Troy Lee didn’t stop at perfecting fit and material when crafting the Moto.

There's more to separate them from less-devoted bottoms, such as a ratcheting closure. Like any good mountain bike shorts, the Motos have a wide, comfortable waistband; but, instead of a snap button that can pop open at the least opportune moment, Troy Lee Designs went with a ratchet system. This effectively avoids those unwelcome scenarios.

For pockets, TLD provided the Moto Shorts with cargo pockets that are offset to store items without hindering fit when riding. The closures are hook-and-loop, which makes retrieving essentials effortless and ensures you stay ahead of the next chair.

The Troy Lee Designs Moto Shorts come in Black/white, Flo Orange, Green, and Camo Black, all with reflective detailing on the rear leg. They are available in even sizes from 30 to 38.
