Get rad.

With a heritage of hard-hitting gravity and motocross protection, the Troy Lee Designs A-1 MIPS Helmet provides bomber protection in a lightweight package to top off epic enduro runs and technical trail adventures. Featuring the same extended protection at the back of the head and around the temples as the standard A-1, the A-1 MIPS steps the safety up a notch with the inclusion of the Multi-Directional Impact Protection (MIPS) system for an extra boost of injury prevention any time you (literally) hit the trail.

What makes MIPS so special is its ability to reduce impact force and decrease concussion risk in the event of a crash. MIPS consists of a strategically anchored, thin liner on the inside of the helmet that looks exceptionally simple, but serves a big purpose. That little liner is designed to move independently of the helmet shell and reduce impact force on your brain compared to standard, non-MIPS helmets. So if you do happen to crash, MIPS technology reduces your risk of concussion and dramatically increases your chances of walking away without a lasting head injury.

The A-1 MIPS also boasts a heap of features to keep you cool and comfortable. A total of 16 large vents provide ample cooling airflow and encourage constant air movement across your dome. A removable, soft and plushy Coolmax liner sits comfortably against your head, fending off the stink produced by bacteria. Not to ignore fit, the A-1 MIPS helmet incorporates three-position adjustable stabilizer baskets and a cam-lock adjustable stabilizer for a custom, easily dialed fit.

Bought it a second time

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Bought one without a lot of research but certainly a respected brand. Ended up having a bad endo a couple days later and cracked it and with the combination of a great helmet and a pinch of luck I ended up ok without much more than a black eye and a bruised ego. So I immediately bought the same model again!

Very comfortable and breathes really well.. Certainly a bit more weight than my Lazer for road but worth it in every way when I'm on trails.

Happy Camper

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

My priorities when buying a helmet include:
1. Safety
2. Comfortable
3. Breathable

While safety is the most important, I need all three of these boxes to be checked to consider myself a happy camper. This a-1 helmet definitely does just that.

Nice helmet, too big

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I bought a M/L, though I usually fit into smaller helmets, like the S Smith Forefront. The helmet is pretty bulky on the exterior. The interior fit around my head well, just felt the exterior was too large. Uncertain if MIPs adds to bulk.
