Why We Like The T2 Classic

The Thule T2 Classic 2 Bike Hitch Rack safely transports our favorite enduro sleds, fat tire steeds, and even road bikes. In fact, this versatile rack secures bikes ranging from smaller 20-inch versions all the way up to 29-inch wheels, holding massive tires up to 5 inches wide on fat-tire bikes.

Contact-free ratcheting arms secure the front tires without scratching up our carbon frames. Wider wheel trays accommodate a wide variety of bikes, with a ratcheting rear-wheel strap keeping the rear end firmly secure. These trays are fully adjustable, allowing us to slide them back and forth to eliminate any bike rubbing.

The SnugTite attachment locks the rack to the hitch, so thieves won't take off with your sweet rack. One Key System compatibility (sold separately) allows the ratcheting arms to lock down over your bike's front tire to deter theft. Plus, its HitchSwitch gives you the ability to fold it up when it's not in use, also providing a backward tilt for rear-trunk access without painstakingly unloading the bikes.

Nice bike carrier but a bit too right for 4.5 tire

Great quality carrier however it is a bit tight for my Farley 4.5 inch front tire. Have to lower the pressure to be able to jam it on properly

Great Rack but

This rack far exceeded my expectation. Very sturdy and easy to use. It was also very easy to install. The weight of this rack is also manageable allowing me to quickly remove. Placing the bikes on the rack is very easy as well. Locking system for both the can and bikes are great. I was able to purchase with same lock codes. However I was pulled over by my local police because the rack obstructed my license plate. Although I wasn't issued a ticket at the time the officer said that he could. He suggested that I purchase another rack for the roof of my car. I told him that I was too old to lift a bike onto the roof. He also stated that just because they sell this type of rack doesn't mean that it is legal.

Assembly

Difficult to follow instructions on assembly. You better have someone who has put these together previously available in order to get this assembled.

70 year old can't lift

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I have prolapse and cannot lift. The saddles do not swivel down so the back needs to be lifted over them. Too awkward with the bike up one rack now but falling off. There is no on ramp to get the bike from the ground up on the rack. The 1-1/2" hitch attachment causes a lot of wobble. Not for me.

Dependable, Sturdy and Easy to Use

Bought this rack about 5 years ago and it has been heavily used without a problem. It came with cable locks that provide a quick deterrent although I always use multiple locks when out of eye shot. It has varied strap settings for fat bikes and a nice tilt setting so we can access the back of our van. I always feel comfortable knowing the bikes are secure on this rack in all weather and road conditions. If you buy it from your local bike shop they will assemble it for you and you can support local.

Great Rack but...

This is an excellent bike rack (hence my 4 star rating). Fits my Trek FX 2 and my wife's townie perfectly. There is just 1, rather large, issue: DO NOT PURCHASE THIS RACK IF YOU ARE INSTALLING ON A JEEP WRANGLER JL!. There are 3 reasons for this: 1 - In order to install you need a hitch receiver - no big deal - however, wrangler hitch receivers sit flush with the back bumper. You sill have another 8" to a foot to clear (minimum) with the spare tire (stock) mounted. Thus you end up needing to install a hitch extension - which makes the rack less stable and defeats the security that Thule has built in with the threaded bolt for the rack 2 - after getting the rack installed, i noticed that, when the rack is in the stored position, the wheel wells on the rack cover 1 of the brake lights / turn signals perfectly...as if it was meant to cover it. Guess what that means...TICKETS!!!! so much fun. 3 - Forget using the trunk area to store things like the Jeep freedom panels - you can't access it with this bike rack. Thule - I beg you, please bring back the spare tire rack and design it to fit the JL. You'd sell a ton of them.

T2 Classic

Just put together our T2 Classic and the rear tire straps are too short for a fat tire! The front tire holder is oversized for fat tires, why would they make the straps too short. Very disappointed. I would not recommend this bike rack if you have a fat tire.

trouble

just purchased 2 e-bikes, 1 with 27.5" x 3.5 : tires, the other a 29" x 3.5" tire type. (oh this is a 2" receiver type) - so problems: 1) Rear tire strap is too short, instructions do not provide an answer. 2) front wheel ratchet will not fit front wheel on a ratchet lock, so loose and slips off, no way to fix though advertisement is 29" with up to 5" tires (this is crap as bike can fall off) 3) without Youtube, trying to assemble this via the instructions is a sad joke.

A solid option for transporting heavy e-bikes

I bought this hitch rack to carry two 50lb e-mountain bikes. The frame does fold up with 1 cm to spare on the back of a Jeep Wrangler w/spare tire with no need for a 2" hitch extension. I think the improvements made with the T2 Pro XT 2 would be nice but not at $150 additional cost in my case. They also offered a Military discount which is greatly appreciated.
