To the bike mobile.

While we typically prefer to ride our bikes to the trailhead or mouth of the canyon, such a practice can be prohibitively difficult if the trailhead or canyon happens to be several hundred miles away from home. In that case, the Thule Doubletrack 2 Bike Hitch Carrier with STL2 Lock provides enough flexible capacity to carry virtually any bike — from a skinny tire roadster to a snow-specific fat bike — to the start line. Since the Doubletrack 2 also adapts to different-sized hitches, you can turn virtually any vehicle with a hitch into a bike mobile.

Thule's Snug Tite 2 receiver lock system secures the rack to your vehicle, eliminating the ever-stressful rearview mirror wobble that will have you wanting to pull over every five minutes to confirm the rack's security. Locks for the bike mounts themselves add the same peace of mind during pit stops, and foldable center masts terminate in ratchetting hooks to keep the bikes steady during transit.

  • Fits bicycles with tire widths of up to 3in and wheel bases of up to 48in
  • Hitch adapter accommodates hitches of varying sizes
  • Wheel trays are adjustable for secure positioning
  • Center masts and locks secure each bike individually
  • May not accommodate small frames with low top tubes

Budget hitch bike rack that works ok but strap for wheel is not long enoug for modern day size mtn bike tire that is 2.3

Great rack for the money

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This rack is a great hitch rack for the money. It is best used on 1.25" receivers, as it uses an adapter to fit the 2" receivers, which is not ideal in my opinion. It's not really a big issue just something worth considering.

It fits everything from road bike tires up to 2.5" mountain bike tires. I haven't been successful getting anything larger to fit. It fits my SB6 which has an exceptionally long 48" wheelbase, so most bikes should fit fine in this regard. Put the bike with the taller top tube on the outside of the rack, because the inner arm clamp sits below the outer clamp. If the taller bike is put on the inside then you may have issues getting the outside arm to cinch down far enough on the smaller top tube bike. This may sound confusing but it will make sense if you encounter it.

The locks are sweet, they lock the arms in place securely. It would take some serious work from a diligent thief to get around these locks so they are a great deterrent. The rack also locks to the hitch. I noticed the locks on the arms can be hard to reach, as certain types of bike frames may block them when the arms are tightened into place, but this is a minor detail.

The hitch pin tightens down removing most of the play/movement in the rack. It does still have a bit of play, but not much. We took it on a 3000 mile mountain bike road trip and it stayed secure the whole time, even in high wind conditions.

Installation is pretty easy, just make sure to tighten down all the bolts well. Overall this is a good rack for the price.

Can this work with 5" fat tires in any way or am I forced to spend another $150 for the T2?

Great rack for the money. It is a bit of a pain that this doesn't have the tilt feature (but that's what an extra $150 gets you with the Transport rack). We've hauled our bikes on over 3000 mile trips with this, on off-road trails and the interstate, and it keeps everything locked down tight. Love that this one comes with a lock too.

Great Affordable Rack

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

IM really liking this rack, about $150 less than top of the line, but does just about the same thing.. Comes with locks, easy to raise and lower for entry into rear of car. Stable on the road. great quality. Easy to load bike.

What is the advantage of the Transport T2 over the Doubletrack that justifies the $150 price difference? Is it mostly the ability to add the Transport T2 Bike Add-on?

It is the ability to add on, a little easier to load and unload, plus a tilt feature that allows you access to the trunk of your car.

my first trip my bike flew out of this thing going 70... havent figured out what went wrong maybe it was something i did not really sure.. good thing my bike was fine tho, my bike guy couldnt believe i didnt do any damage

My bike fell off the rack as well, I found that the plastic levers used to adjust/secure the wheel tray to the support bar had popped loose and so the wheel tray slipped off the end; not my favorite design.

does it work on 2013 mini cooper hardtop?

I believe that that should fit with your car based of of the information that I have. However, to be sure please use the fit guide we have just above the tech specs, it will just get the specific info about your car and decide if this hitch will work with your vehicle.

If I read your question right this is a hitch rack and not a roof rack. So if you have a 1.25" or 2" hitch receiver then it will work.

It fits. I have an R56 and have fitted this same bike rack. Be sure you have a 1.25 inch hitch attachment and the bar has just enough clearance from the rear bumper.

How heavy can the bikes be. Will it handle a 80 lb bike?

This rack has a 2 bike capacity with a load limit of 70 lbs. Also, make sure you always put your heavier bike closer the the hitch.

    Great rack for the $$$$

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

If you need a quality rack and don't want to sink 5 Ben's in it then this rack is great. No titlt option but the locking arms do fold down when not in use to access the tailgate of your SUV. I love the lock options on the securing arms for each bike. Not impenetrable but a nice deterrent. The hitch lock is also great for a would be thief who would just take the whole darn rack and bikes! So if your value conscience and want name brand look to this Thule model for sure.

Is anyone having a problem with damage to the top tube of the bike where the arm puts pressure down on the bike to hold it in place? Thanks

Hi. I have the Thule two bike carrier. The stem with the two hooks seemed really loose so I tightened them a bit. Now I can't seem to get the stem to lay flat so I can fold it up against trhe vehicle. Do the screws have to be really loose?

Not at all Richard. Great little rack for the money. When you say damage do you mean bending of frame top tube or what????

Does this rack have a tilt, or other option...

Does this rack have a tilt, or other option to allow for opening of the tailgate?

You won't be able to tilt it out of the way to open the hatch with bikes still on the rack. It will have to be empty to pen the hatch.

No. The center arm folds down and that is all for access to tailgate opening.

Looking for a 2 bike rack. Just had a hitch put on a 2013 Chevy Equinox. Please advise which is the most reliable, safe, secure that you would recommend for two traveling women. I have viewed the helium aero rack & the vortex 2 rack, as well as the STL2.

I have a new womans specialized bicycle, how does the upper hook fasten to the bike?

After you strap in both wheels, the hook lowers down onto the bike's top tube to hold it snugly in place.

Is this rack for a 2" hitch?

It's compatible with both 1.25" and 2" hitches.

    Great rack

Straight forward installation. Includes all hardware so you don't have to go out and buy tools to install.

Fits both bikes securely without much effort. I drive on open country roads at 70-80 mph. No problems

Only complaint is their locking system. Does take some getting use too and at times it seams as if it will not lock but keep wiggling the key and it'll lock.

Much more cost effective than a roof rack mount system if you were to start from no accessories on the car.
