Thule Criterium Bike Mount $189.95
A high-tech car top quick draw holster for your bike.
The Thule Criterium bike carrier will save you substantial amounts of fumbling time getting your bike onto the roof. The clamp adjustment dial is down at roof level, since most of us aren't 8 feet tall, and the rubberized clamp will baby your bike's frame. When you reach your destination, Thule has equipped the Criterium with a single button release for the clamp, so you can hit the button, grab your bike and hit the trail. The Criterium is also high security, with a double locking system for bike and rack that uses two cylinders to give you added piece of mind when you have to leave the car.

Is it secure on carbon frames?
Is it secure on carbon frames?
Totally! - will work perfect for your awesome bike :)
Functioned as described by the manufacturer, works excellent if the instruction is followed. One should not rely on any lockable bike carrier for security so disregard the lock and key selling point. Your bike's security is your responsibility , this carrier is aesthetically pleasing and well built, its worth every penny in fact I bought three.
Don't buy if your going far
Well, the 2010 model is still a little scary. I don't feel comfortable using it except short trips to trails & races. There is just nothing that beats the stability of a fork mounted rack. That being said this is super easy to use with mountain bikes, as you don't have to take the front wheel off and risk messing up the disk. Now the other point of that. This doesn't work with a couple of full suspension bikes I've notices. So if you've got a road bike or hardtail, are driving less than sixty five mph and less than a half hour, your good to buy this. If not, get the peleton.

I have a 2001 Acura MDX SUV. Will the Criterium Bike Mount fit the factory installed roof rack on the car? Will the rack mount without having to purchase any additional clamps?

Will this hold both mountain and road bikes securely?
Yes. It holds both road and mountain.
quick and easy
20 seconds on the rack and 20 seconds off the rack. the clamp arm is adjustable and secure. 85 mph with a bike on the roof and no worries. i dont think i agree with the "high security" comment in the description though. i have thrown a cable lock on it to grab something to eat, but i am still nervous my rig will get jacked. the best thing about it is that its easy, fast, and works great with my hardtails. dont own any full suspension bikes so i am not sure it would be good for those silly things.

Nice Design, but that is where it ends. I used this to bring my bike on a 1500 mile road trip. The bike rattled the entire time. When I passed a couple semi trucks, it seemed like the bike was going to rip off the rack. It is good for short distance trips to the single track, since the design allows for fast loading and unloading. But I would not recommend using this rack for long distance trips, it does not hold the bike very well. Get a fork mount rack for those trips.

I need one each 852-2040-002 wheel holder and one each 853-6512 wheel strap for my Thule 598 rack
We lost my wife's bike on the passenger side of the vehicle. This rack allows the front wheel to rattle side to side violently when passing a trucks. Before we noticed on a 1800 mile road trip, the Front wheel strap shattered and allowed the bike to fall over, release from the frame clamp and scraped down the side of my vehicle before the rear wheel strap broke. All in a matter of seconds, the bike then fell to the pavement (highway) and was a total loss. Not to mention the highway danger. Don't buy this rack.
Thule Criterium Bike rack
Excellent! After buying the first one, I also bought a second one. Easy to change from right-hand to left-hand mounting. It works great with all of our bikes, sturdy mount and lockable.
And very quick internet service from these guys!
As promised, this is easy to load. And that's nice. Who wants to deal with taking off the front wheel if you don't have to? The bike is unstable on top. The arm combined with the two straps is not nearly the same thing as clinching the front fork directly onto a rack. It is very easy for thieves to break, as we discovered when leaving the bike on top of our car in the middle of the day in Chicago downtown. True, any bike rack can be foiled without tremendous effort, but it looked like this took a casual, but expert, passerby all of about 10 seconds.
extremely convenient, beautiful design!
I loved my Crierium so much, I bought a 2nd one immediately! It's so easy to mount and dismount a bike from it. Holds the bike securely. One key to lock bike to carrier and carrier to car.
