Bringing some style to the explorer in you.

From the top of Everest to snorkeling in the Caribbean, the Suunto Core Brushed Steel Altimeter Watch need never leave your wrist. Its altimeter works in elevations as high as 29,500 feet and as low as -1,600 feet, and its log records your movement up the mountain so you know how long you climbed, how high, and how fast you were moving. Its barometer measures differentiating pressures every 30 minutes with a memory up to 24 hours, and it has a storm alarm to notify you when there's a possible threat of worsening weather. And this watch switches from altimeter to barometer automatically every time you stop moving to provide a more accurate interpretation of changes in pressure.

The Core also features a compass with a north indicator that lets you know where you're heading in degrees. It also informs you of the temperature, date, and time (of course). There's one alarm and it's fluent in English, Spanish, French, and German. And the brushed steel housing gives this sports watch a sophisticated look that works on the mountain as well as important business meetings. Who needs another watch?

Beautiful Watch, If You Can See It.

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I ignored all the reviews about how difficult the negative face is to see and bought the Brushed Steel Core anyway... I was sorry I did. The brushed steel is a gorgeous watch, so I really wanted to like it, but in the end I had to send it back. Too many times I would glance down at my wrist and couldn't read the time. The deal breaker was when I was driving with my lift hand and realized I had to take my hand off the wheel and move the watch to my face to read the time - in broad day light! The main reason I still wear a watch, and don't rely on my phone, is so I can tell the time with a quick glance at my wrist. The brushed steel version of the Core is also quite heavy - although that reason alone would not deter me from buying it, but if you're picky about the weight of your watch, you may want to look at another model.

Aside from the hard to read negative display, I really do love this watch. To get something close to the Brushed Steel Core look without the negative display, I returned the Brushed Steel Core and bought the all white Core with the positive display. I also bought the same black strap that's sold with the brushed steel since I wasn't a fan of the white strap. Putting the black strap on the all white Core basically gave me the watch I wanted, and the white Core is all aluminum which makes it much lighter (although not a durable as the steel).

Beautiful Watch, If You Can See It.

Suunto Core Brushed Steal

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I have been using the Suunto Core for about a year and got the Brushed Steal about two weeks ago. First off I love the look of the watch. It is perfect for skiing and hiking, then at night looks right at home as I am ordering my whiskey. It fits greats. There are two metal band that connect the rubber band to the watch face adding to the great look but making the fit great and allowing the watch to move with you. I have also loved the temperature, barometer, and altimeter features. That is what this watch is really meant for. Adventuring. I am really looking forward to taking it back packing this summer in the Colorado mountains. The Suunto customer help center has also really impressed me. I have broken a Suunto watch before by crashing on my bike and they fixed my exact watch for me saved my personal settings, and sent it back in a timely manner. The customer service and great product are what has kept me a Suunto wearer for the last 10 years. Also did I mention how awesome this watch looks.
