Lightweight and Breathable

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large

These shorts are perfect for summer biking and I do not have any complaints at this time. They are lightweight, breathable, durable, and comfortable. I am 5?7 and 135 lbs and the small fits perfectly. I would say that the sizing does run on the large side, as I started out with a medium and had to exchange for the smaller size, but the chart should get you fairly close.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I love the shorts, but I'm not so fond of the chamois that came with these. The chamois seem to be a bit on the large side, but the shorts fit perfect. I bought a size large, I'm 5'7 and 160lbs. I have been wearing my Dakine chamois under these shorts, and it's a great combo!

Love them now

  • Fit: Runs large

You know, I should have heeded the various warnings about these shorts being too large. I ordered a pair for my wife as a surprise, and I guess she felt flattered when the size large that she normally wears, having to upsize most bike apparel, virtually fell to the floor when she tried them on. Backcountry, as usual being easy to deal with, exchanged the shorts for size effortlessly, and now she absolutely loves them. She says it's definitely the best chamois she has, and she has quite a few. Great summer shorts.

Flattering&Comfy! Ditch the chamois

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I was on a mission to find a good pair of mtb riding shorts that had quality material, fit comfortably AND looked stylish. DONE. Love these shorts. They run big. I'm 5ft, 120lbs, 26 waist/ size 2 waist. I bought an XS and they're perfect. Hated the chamois liner though. Total front to back wedgie, rode up in the all the wrong places.

Flattering&Comfy! Ditch the chamois

quality riding short

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: Runs large

i bought these for my girlfriend in the hopes that with a comfortable chamois i could get her to ride more- mission accomplished! she likes the casual look of em, stretchy, but not overly stretchy. they are a little longer than most, and they indeed do size a little large.

overall a good buy.

Wierd fit, runs large...

I love the material of these shorts-- very stretchy and nonbinding. I'm 5'4", longish legs, size 10 jeans, and ordered a size "L". I've got a 31" waist, and these are too big in the waist. I wear a belt and that seems to work, though the pockets kind of pucker in a strange way. I want to love these, but I think they will just be my back up mtn. biking shorts. The chamois is fine.

Great material! Just ok chamois

So happy with these shorts! Material was light and stretchy. They were super comfortable on the 14 mile ride in Tahoe with 80-90 degree weather. I am 5ft and 120 pounds. I ordered the XS and they were a fantastic fit. Flattering fit and length but not too tight. Lots of room to move and bend without being too bulky. Liked the pockets. I would wear my own liner next time though. Didn't like the padding in the chamois, seemed to ride up.

    Super light and stretchy

These knee length shorts feel great! Slim fit without being restrictive anywhere even when squatting down. I don't like that the chamois is white but it has a good pad. The purple looks really sheer and almost two-tone in the pic and they aren't like that at all. Solid purple with white trim. My new fav pair of shorts to race MTB in!!

    Awesome shorts

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I wore these shorts mtn biking in the Himalaya, they kept me warm, I received a ton of compliments and they protected my legs from scrapes/bruises. For warm evenings I could wear as shorts without the chammy and took them to the river for a dip. A must have all purpose touring short. I'm hooked and ordered a black pair.

    Loved the shorts

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I really like the shorts, the liner padding felt different than my regular bike shorts, but was great when I actually riding. The style is very cool. They do run large.

    Great Shorts/Mediocre Linner

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Good price, lite weight, durable ride.

These run large and rest right at the knee when riding.

The liner runs large as well. I didn't end up using the liner and rode with my own bibs underneath instead.

    Comfortable with a GREAT chamois

I should point out first that the Amethyst is definitely more purple than the photo leads on. A nice royal purple, nothing crazy. The first thing you might notice when you put these on (if you bought the right size) is how comfortable the liner is. Sugoi uses a quality chamois that protects and doesn't feel like a piece of wool between your legs. The liner fabric also breathes really well and doesn't feel like an extra layer under the shorts. The cut of the shorts is flattering and not overly baggy. They have a relaxed cut to them without being overly generous. The bottom hem sits right above my knee, so I don't look I am wearing man shorts or too much like a puritan. I am 5'9", 135 lbs and the medium fits with just a touch of extra room (which I prefer). I love these shorts so much I might just buy a pair in black. Well worth the money and great for commuting or mountain biking in.

      Could do better

The picture of these made them appear shiny and fast but when i got them they looked like old purple polyester. The inner thigh strip accents your privates in a weird way. No problems with the fit - I'm always a size small and the small fit perfectly. The gusset is supposed to be some fancy new design but feels like every other pair of bike shorts. The leg elastic is extremely sticky. If you make a pit stop and are a bit sweaty don't expect to get them back on any time soon.

        Pear shape...

I ordered a (L) and they are WAY to big in the waist and loose in the thigh, so I'm hoping the step down to a (M) will fit MY pear shape! 160, 5'9"....the large per the measurements provided should have worked so giving it a three star at the moment.

Well, LV'd the color and the stretch of these but sadly the medium was just to small...they need an inbetween size or to fix the crotch/inseam length on the large I guess. DRATZ. Sombrio seems to be the only short that fits me.
