Why We Like The XG-1190-A2 Cassette

You've ridden mid-range, workhorse componentry for years now, eschewing the latest and greatest for the pragmatic choice time and time again. If you're finally stepping up your drivetrain game, go all the way already and upgrade to Red. One of the defining members of the groupset, the resplendent XG-1190-A2 Cassette acts just as much as a work of art as it does a highly functioning member of your drivetrain, and it's been gifted with shiny new aesthetics this year to match the all new SRAM Red eTap components.

Quiet and light are the defining features of the XG-1190, which SRAM achieves with its PowerdomeX construction and StealthRing elastomers that sit between each cog to eliminate noise. The technologies contribute to a quiet ride and clear, clean shifts that may leave you feeling like something is missing for your first few rides if you're used to clunks and jumps accompanying every shift. SRAM machines the entire piece for the utmost precision, with the middle nine cogs featuring a hollow construction to shave weight and further eliminate noise.

Loud and not in a good way

Yall thing is noisy. It’s different than my last sram 11-32 legacy etap. Package say it’s hollow body. The last cassette does not specify this. Basis of comparison is my 2018 sram 11-32 red etap cassette which was well used but taken care of. I got on the bike and was like what in the world? Do I need a bottom bracket now? (No) Is it in the pedal ? (No). Is it a problem with the chain? (No) Analysis conducted in a systemic manner to control one variable at a time. Some bike white noises are wonderful but this sounds ratchety. Perhaps interpretations of “quiet” may vary? Is this srams attempt to force everyone to upgrade to the newer flat top axis of evil etap?

Quiet, Seamless, Precision

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This the third XG-1190 I have purchased. As the title suggests, this cassette is very quiet when shifting. The first two were purchased when I upgraded a Double 10 to Red 11. This purchase is for a gravel bike I am building from a Cannondale Quick frame. Shifting with this cassette is seamless and precise. I have never had a missed shift with this cassette. Routine maintenance of the cassette is simple due to its first 10 cogs being manufactured from a single block. Would I recommend this product -- I have three of them. Yes I recommend this product.
