Positive evolution.

Products like SRAM's X01 Rear Derailleur are the perfect example of positive evolution from healthy competition. Without it, wildlife would still be exposed to strings of expletives every time that a chain drops or a chainstay gets slapped.

Not to mention that we'd still be lugging around defunct front derailleurs, shifters, and chainrings. Technical advancements are a wonderful thing, and what started with the XX1 groupset is now spreading into the more affordable X01 line. This means that you'll find the same XX1 technologies, like the venerable X-HORIZON design, that reduce ghost shifting. Additionally, you'll also find SRAM's Roller Bearing Clutch that decreases chain-slap, and its Cage Lock technology that makes removing and replacing the rear wheel a breeze.

X-HORIZON is unlike typical derailleurs, where the knuckle only moves side-to-side, not up-and-down. This limits the movement to the horizontal axis, making ghost shifting nonexistent. An offset upper-pulley wheel is also unusual in its design, but it provides a constant chain-gap through all gear ratios. And with the combination of the X-SYNC chainring, pulley wheels, and a Roller Bearing Clutch, a chain guide isn't needed with X01. In fact, the chain is tensioned with the derailleur and locked in place with the pulleys and chainring, effectively making dropped chains and missed shifts things of the past.

The Cage Lock technology on the X-HORIZON derailleur adds convenience to your bike maintenance, too. While either installing a new chain, swapping tires, or changing a flat on the trail, you're able to lock your derailleur in place for easy adjustments. Just push the cage forward to create some slack, and lock it into place while you work on your bike. No extra tools are required to make this happen, which makes trail emergencies where you need to remove your wheel a simple fix.

SRAM's X01 Rear Derailleur is available in the colors Black and Red and is only compatible with SRAM 11-speed XX1 or X01 components.
