Less actually is more.

From afar, Force looks like Red's twin, much in the way Rival used to look like Force's twin. The big change is that the arms that support the brake cable-housing stop look thinner, more graceful. From the side, the cutouts are bigger. They call it a "skeletonized" design. The differences that separate these Force calipers from Red start with the color. The finish here is a nice grey anodizing, called Zephyr Silver, rather than polished like Red. The brake shoes don't have the cutouts that the Red shoes have, and while you may not be able to see it, Force doesn't have the titanium bolts and such that Red calipers have; instead, they rely on stainless steel parts. Like Red, the Force calipers use cold forged aluminum for the arms.

In terms of function, Force is nearly identical to Red. There is a hex-head spring tension adjusting screw on the side to adjust the feel of the squeeze. There is also a hex-head screw atop the calipers for easy centering. The brake shoes come with SwissStop pads manufactured to SRAM's all-weather spec.

The SRAM Force Brake Calipers come two to a set. The quick release is indexed for precise opening and closing, and there's a micro-adjusting barrel against the cable housing. The brake pads are replaceable with any Shimano/SRAM-compatible pad. The claimed weight of the SRAM Force brake calipers is 280g per set.

  • Dual-pivots add braking power and enhances progressive feel for more precise modulation
  • Skeletonized design eliminates extra material for lighter weight
  • Fully adjustable for a customized feel
  • Cold-forged arms and stainless steel pivots will last for years
  • Indexed quick-release provides quick, precise settings

  • Two brakes per set
  • Skeletonized arms
  • Stainless steel hardware

are these a bright silver like in the picture? or the normal dark gunmetal grey color?

It just works!

Reliable, easy to install and solid modulation. What else can you ask for at this price point? The gun metal anodizing is pretty nice too!
I used these on my 2nd bike, My set of brakes has about 3k miles them and zero issues. I would say, I neglect them more than my main ride so the durable finish is appreciated!

Only minor qualm, the chisel look was unique at first but now it's not so hot.

It just works!

Excellent performance

I was a diehard Shimano Ultegra/DA fan until I bought a bike with full Force. These brakes have better feel and modulation than even my older DA or new Ultegra brakes. Great stopping power, and love the adjustor for squeeze tension. One more note: SRAM's Doubletap levers ensure no braking feel is messed up by the brake also functioning as a shifter. I'm a SRAM convert.

Are SRAM Force brake calipers compatible with Ultegra 6700 shifters?

They should work without a problem, I'm running the "Red" on Sora shifters

Crisp modulation!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

These are great in a nutshell. Love the finish as well. Lightweight and positive stopping without all the mushiness some brakes can give you regardless of what you do to remedy it. Well worth the money and make your bike blingish!
