Item # SRM0047

The wheel, sliced-bread, beer, PowerLink Connector.

Trailside chain repair isn't much fun, but SRAM makes it a touch easier with the SRAM 9-Speed Power Link. The Power Link allows you to connect or disconnect your chain without the use of tools, making cleaning your chain a breeze as well. As it works for both SRAM and Shimano 9 Speed chains, we don't leave home without one of these in our repair kit.

quick and easy

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've got a bunch of bikes in my stable--a couple still running bombproof 9-speed drivetrains and a singlespeed that I'm also running a 9speed chain on. Quicklink allows for tool free chain removal and easy chain cleaning (I drop the chain in an old BPA laden nalgene with simplegreen in it or run the chain through an ultrasonic cleaner)--something I do if my drivetrain has seen a harsh environment (rain/slush/snow). I also keep powerlinks (for 9, 10, 11sp) in my on-bike repair kit in the event I've ever got a trailside chain repair to make. Easily worth the few bucks they cost...

Quick and Easy

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Ever had chain issues on the trail? Its a pain!! These quick links make life much easier! Throw one in your saddle bag or pocket.

These are a must have.

These are a must have in your pack.

For some reason I have had better luck with Shimano chains. Maybe a fluke; but, same trails same bike... switched to Shimano and the breaks stopped. Even still, I use a Sram quick link from the beginning when sizing and installing. I always keep a spare in the pack. More often than not, the spare goes to a friend or other stranded biker on the trail. I will always carry one of these and recommend to all bikers. Quick, easy, and strong.

These are a must have.

No chain-tool required, AWESOME!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is something I have not had to use very often, but when I needed it, it was so nice to fix my mountain bike chain without using tools. It was not a "temporary" fix either, it actually works fine as a permanent fix. I still have one of these connectors in my chain. I recommend it!

Carry extras

Your chain may have one of these already, but carry a spare or two for emergency repairs. These are reusable, but their life is also the life of the chain. Basically don't use an old Powerlink with a new chain.

    Great invention

I carry these for 9,10 and 11 speed chains, I run into people with broken chains on the trail all the time and it is nice to be able to provide some assistance to get them riding again. Everyone should ride with these in their packs.

Mandatory Gear in any Mountain Bike Pack

There are certain things that you must carry in your backpack every time you leave the trail head. PowerLinks are one of them; just like water, a rain shell, a pump, an extra tube, and a multi-tool.

Unless you like getting stranded, throw one in now and forget about it until it ends up saving you an epic hike out.

        A Life-Saver

A little pricey, but when you're on the side of the trail with a broken chain, you could care less.

Agreed with everyone below: these are dead-simple to use and they weigh nothing so why not carry a couple. Worth changing to SRAM chain just for the ease (for XC anyway).

I've got some pretty strong fingers but I had one heck of a time engaging the link until I smartened up. Pop the links in, grab your brake and pedal a couple strokes: the tension from the pedaling engages this little beauty easily.

          Great Product

These chain links are really easy to use. They sure beat trying to put a chain back together while on a trail using only your chain breaker (which is possible, but not recommended). Get a Sram chain, buy some of these gold links, and live worry free!

Is the PowerLink compatible with Shimano...

Is the PowerLink compatible with Shimano chains as well?

I have seen this used quite frequently especially as a quick fix for an on trail break. While both companies may tell you no, I have seen this work on several occassions

yes, I have used these on Shimano chains for years. Pic above shows Shimano chain with Sram Power Link.

            simple, perfect

Get one. So easy to use, durable, secure. I have been using these for quite a while and they really take the effort out of putting on a chain or fixing one on the trail. I always carry and extra in my pack in case I break my chain. you will be back on the train in no time with these.

              so much better than shimano

if youre messing around changing pins on your shimano chains, STOP! take your chain off your bike and smack yourself in the brain with it. The PowerLink doodad is where all the cool kids are going. I would say the shimano and sram chains are comparable, but the connector is what matters most. and for that, SRAM is one of the most hassle free, no tool needed, magical piece of gear i know of. make the change.

                Chain Repairs Made Easy

My friends break a lot of chains for some reason. I picked up a pack of these and now chain repairs are so easy. I just snap in one of these SRAM PowerLink Chain Connector, and away we go. I think that they are worth the price because they are so handy.

                  Awesome but Pricey

I love these things, we use them all the time in the shop and it makes it sooo much easier to take off chains and clean them and not have to break the chain and put a new chain pin in each time. The only reason I gave them 4 stars is because they are a little expensive, I would try and find another brand that is just as good like kmc.
