Description

The SRAM PG-1170 Cassette provides smooth shifting across 11 gears with its semi-spidered steel cogs. Ideally pairing with SRAM's Force 22 groupset, the PG-1170 cassette features a 16T cog for extra cadence control and delightfully smooth shifting when you're hovering around the middle block of the cassette. X-Glide shifting technology eliminates flex between the teeth to enhance shifting smoothness, especially on downshifts. Note that SRAM recommends pairing this cassette with its PC-1170 chain for flawless shifting. Moreover, it's only compatible with 11-speed hub/freehub bodies, and it includes an anodized, laser-etched aluminum lockring.

I bought the Ridley X-fire a couple months ago from here with Force CX-1. Front 42T and rear 11-28 with 116 link chain. I'm doing a race with lots of steep climbing. Looking to buy the PG-1170 11-36T. Will I need a new chain too?
Thanks

Yes, and you may need to change the derailleur to a mid cage or a large cage, both should work.

Look at:

Yes, a 120 link, and you will need a longer rear derailleur as well.

Love it!

When paired with the the cx1 group set you will be an unstoppable force when on the CX course or on a gravel grinding adventure. The 36 tooth granny is perfect to get up and over the steepest climbs.

Hi is this compatible with Shimano Ultegra 6800 11 speed groupo? IE chain, derailleur

    Thanks

    Phil

Thanks Mike, reason i ask is I have a Sram 11 speed equipped bike and Shimano 11 speed bike, tired of changing the cassettes all the time when I want to use a shared wheel set :D

But yes will check out your link

I want to ask the same question. PG1170 goes up to 11/36 where CS-6800 max out at 11/32 which I already have on my bike(compact double 50/34). If I want even lower gear for those 10%+ grades, I need 11/34 or 11/36. That's where PG1170 11/36 comes in. Now the only missing part in this 6800 11spd drivetrain with a PG1170 11/36 setup is the WolfTooth Road Link derailleur hanger extension. A $22 part. Problem solved.

Phil, did you follow through with this? I was under the impression that the medium cage Shimano (I have 5800) would handle the 11-36 with no mods. What were your results? Thanks

    Excellent

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I run this cassette on a cyclocross setup for long mixed surface rides with lots of climbing. The cassette gives me a wide range of gears to choose from and the 32 is a lifesaver on some of the bigger climbs here in the Wasatch. Shifting is smooth up and down and it runs quiet paired with a SRAM chain. The jump between 28 and 32 can take a little getting used to, but it is not a detractor at all and people riding other wide range cassettes or 1x drivetrains won't even notice.
