The SRAM PC-1031 Chain is a revamped version of the PC-1030. The only difference is a subtle reshaping of the outer plates to make it run quieter. It's made specifically for 10-speed drivetrains, and like its pricier relatives, it mates perfectly with the tooth shaping and pickup/release points on SRAM's cassettes and chainrings for flawless shifting performance.

Two main details differentiate it from their top of the line PC-1091 -- it lacks the hollow pins and nickel plating on both the inner and outer link plates. So the solid pins add some twenty grams or so over a hollow-pinned chain and you'll just need to make sure that you keep your PC-1031 chain well-lubricated and it will serve you well. The chrome-hardened link pins provide all the strength you'll ever need for massive efforts against the pedals. You can install a PC-1031 chain without special tools thanks to SRAM's PowerLock connecting link. No other sub-6mm chain in the marketplace shares this feature. And unlike the occasional headaches we're all familiar with when it comes to Shimano HG pins and Wippermann connecting links, the PowerLock link is as strong or stronger than any other link on the chain, and it won't hinder shift quality in the least.

The SRAM PC-1031 Chain is compatible with both SRAM and Shimano 10-speed drivetrains. Please note that while the PowerLock installation can be done tool-free, it's recommended to be used only once due to the extremely close tolerances required by the narrow 10-speed design. So if you must break your chain for maintenance reasons, a new 10-speed PowerLock link will be required to reassemble it.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

A new chain is a necessity, especially after nearly snapping the one you have on a bent link. I went with this option to save some cash, and I have no doubts that it will last close to the 1000 mile mark.

Awesome chain, good value

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have always had great luck with SRAM chains, the PC 1031 is my go-to 10 speed chain. I am currently using it on my downhill bike so weight isn't a huge concern. Reliability is a concern, however, and this chain has stood up to the test of time. It finally broke after 2 season of hard riding, and I just replaced it with the same chain. If you're looking for a great performing, reliable 10 speed chain that won't break the bank this is the way to go.

Good price
Easy installation

Not as light as PC 1051 or 1071

Is this chain compatible with my daughters 2009 Giant Avail, Shimano 10 speed 105 drivetrain, FSA GOSSAMER TRIPLE CRANK?

Hey Eppp839725,

This chain will work with your daughters drivetrain. Any Sram or Shimano 10 speed drivetrain will be compatible with this chain.

My Go-To 10 Speed chain

Chains are a pretty basic piece of equipment, but a broken chain can leave a little cloud of doubt every time you put a little energy into the pedals. SRAM chains seem to work time and again, and I love that they come with a masterlink for easy installation and cleaning. There are certainly lighter and schnazzier options out there, but the PC1031 is a trusty favorite of mine.

Durable Chain

I've ridden this chain for the last two years and I've never had a problem until I broke my derailleur hanger. This chain can take a beating and works incredible well. My buddy has snapped his Shimano chain many a time while this one keeps on chugging along. Great bang for your buck!
